"They're still eating," Ken grumbles, phone in his hand while the other holds easily onto Felix's. The two are strolling past brightly colored buildings and bouncing children, heading back towards the main entrance to find their group.
"Maybe we should grab a quick bite too?" Felix offers, eyeing the delicious smelling food stands. Salty popcorn, sugary cotton candy, and stickily sweet caramel apples just beg him to indulge.
"Jack rushed me this morning," the blonde continues, letting the other lead as he skims signs advertising ice cream and cookies. "And I picked my final coat of hairspray over breakfast."
"I guess I won't mind grabbing something-"
Ken stops on his tracks, sentence unceremoniously cut off as he points towards a ride. Felix peers around him, following his finger towards a monstrous roller coaster: California Screamin'."We have to ride it!" Ken demands, pulling Felix towards it without another word.
The blonde's stomach does a flip, dragging behind Ken as he follows the twisting and turning track. A whimper catches on the back of his throat, years without amusement parks relighting his fear of roller coasters.
"It's only a five minute wait? My god, this is fate, Fe-elix," Ken continues, following the empty ropes.
They stop behind a short line of other park guests, mostly older children with their middle aged parents. Ken is the giddiest person in the line, beaming as he stands on his tippy toes to see the front of the line. A gentle smile finds its way into Felix's lips, and he pushes down any fear at the sight of Ken's overjoyed expression.
They're moving in mere minutes, filing onto the roller coaster. Felix feels like he may implode, nervous energy running from the pit of his stomach to the tips of his fingers. He squeezes Ken's hand tighter, taking in a deep breath as they find their seats.
The raven releases his hand, and Felix forces himself to breath slowly as they find separate seat, though directly beside each other. Inhale, one, two, three. He counts slowly as he slides into the seats, nerves crashing onto him as a wave of anxiety. Exhale, one, two, three.
"Are you scared?" Ken asks, looking at the Swede fully for the first time since he stepped towards the ride. His harness is already firmly clicked into place, locked snuggly against his chest.
"Me? No way," Felix swallows hard, pulling his down as well. It clicks loudly, each sound sending his heart racing. His hands are slick with sweat, blonde hair wild from the teacups.
"Seriously, Felix," Ken says, voice level and firm. "We don't have to ride if you don't want to. I'll call a worker over and get us off right now. We can go find the others, and I'll ride this later."
"No, please, it's fine," the blonde insists, wiping the sweat forming on his forehead. A worker is going over safety information, but they're too far back to hear, even if they weren't talking over her.
"We could have started with something a bit gentler," Ken offers, watching the stressed face of his friend.
Felix rolls his eyes, his ego on the line. "We started with the teacups."
"You don't look like you want to ride-"
"We're riding."
The cart jerks as they start on the track. In a few feet, the rail takes them outside the loading dock, greeting them with open air as they begin to climb at a step incline. Felix's blue eyes blow wide as he stares up into the sky, the top of the hill nearly touching the sun: from his perspective, at least.
Felix's thin hand reaches for Ken's, fingers shaking from the combination of fear and adrenaline. The raven takes his hand without question, squeezing tight to comfort him. Felix just grips harder, other hand locked onto his harness.
