*Kayla*
Yet another day of walking around this school with a clique of people who only adore me for my money. I've always been little miss popular, but only because my family is well endowed with fortune.
I'm always surrounded by these fake people. Afterall I technically have to, they are of the higher class families and my parents don't like me hanging around low class people.
I really don't see the need to be rude to those not rich, they can't really do anything about being poor. I used to run with a little boy whose family was towering on the edge of poverty. His name was Jack Johnson and we were bestfriends.
Until my parents got rich and became snobby to those "below us". Our friendship collapsed one day and now here I am, walking down the hallway of this crowded school with a fake smile etched onto my face.
And there he is, miserably walking down the hallway, occasionally getting shoved and cursed at by the jocks.
Once we drifted apart he became very intelligent, so society calls him a nerd. But I find that really respectable, that he's very smart. I just don't like how he gets treated because of it.
I don't try to help him anymore. I remember in 5th grade I tried and I got hurt, physically and mentally. He even said some things to me, how he didn't need my help with anything.
But I admire him as he walks down the hallway, glasses hanging on the bridge of his nose, hair in a messy yet attractive flop on his head.
As he disappeared down the crowd of people, I said goodbye to my "friends". I walked into the office, my first period, I'm an office helper.
At 8:00 sharp I walked to the microphone and began announcements. "Goodmorning students of AHS, Please stand for the pledge of the U.S. flag"
After I finished droning on with the announcements that I'm sure nobody even listens to, Mrs.Grey, my principal approached me.
"Mornin' Kayla, I need you to get a student from room 237, in Mrs.Jackson's classroom," she said handing me a slip with a name printed on it.
I just nodded and smiled, fake. I turned on my heels and walked down the hallway. It was empty except the few kids scurrying to class late and those rushing to the restroom.
I made it to the room I was looking for and knocked slightly on the door. A friendly looking woman opened the door and grinned at me.
"Yes ma'm?" she questioned me. "I was sent from the office, they needed a student," I replied flatly.
I turned and looked at the class, and I was caught off guard. In a hoodie, sitting alert at the front of the class, and staring right back at me was Jack.
"Well who do you need?" the teacher brought me out of my daze. I shook my head and looked down at the paper and read the name out loud.
"Jack Johnson to the front office."
He stood and quietly gathered his things. He said bye to the teacher then directed his attention to me. I nodded towards the door and walked to it.
We were in the empty hallway but this time, instead of enjoying it, I just walked in this little uncomfortable silence.
We were quite a bit away from the office when he stopped and looked at me. "How have you been, Kayla?" he asked with a quirky smile.
