*Kayla*

It was 5:30 and I had been at the park for an hour waiting for Jack. Half of me thought he wasn't going to show up and the other half was sad he wasn't there yet.

I had just stood up when I heard an out of breath Jack run up behind me saying, "CupCake! I'm here!" I felt a smile make its way to my face and I turned to him.

He was bent over with his hands on his knees, breathing deeply. He was adorable with his blonde quiff and his vans.

He looked up and smiled shyly. He pointed to the see-saw and we made our way over there. We just sat there on it for a while until he stood up abruptly, causing my butt to collide with the ground.

I yelped and then laughed. I looked at him giving him a fake pout. He laughed and then wiped a fake tear.

"So what was it you wanted to talk about CupCake?" he asked sitting on the ground beside me.

That's when it hit me. I had met him to talk serious with him. He's just so much fun to be with that I got carried away.

"Oh yeah.... You wanted to know why me and Alyssa were fighting right?" I asked him. Obviously that's what he wanted to know Kayla, he doesn't want to know where the tooth fairy lives.

He nods, "Yeah, I thought y'all were best friends and then at school y'all were insulting each other. By the way, you totally owned her!" he said enthusiastically.

I laughed then sighed. "Well you know the night when I helped you...." I trailed off. "Yes, and I'm very grateful for that night," he says sweetly.

"Well we were on the way to a party when I found you. I ditched her to help you, which I don't regret. She confronted me about it and we got in a huge argument because she called you trash and it pissed me off. I can't stand her being such a-" I started ranting.

He cut me off by grabbing my hands really gently. "You ditched little miss popular to help me? Not only that but you stood up for me?" he asked in slight disbelief.

"Yes Jack, believe it or not I still care about you. I never stopped," I said gripping his hand tighter.

"I believe it, I witnessed it at school today, thanks for that too. But you do realize they will bully you though right?" he asked me.

Oh trust me, I knew. I had been the girl who always stood on the side while her friends bullied people. Never taking part, but never helping either.

"Well, if they pick on anybody, they can pick on me. I don't want you getting hurt," I spoke back quietly.

His eyes clouded with an unreadable emotion and he dropped my hand. I remembered this look. Jack had always been a bipolar type kid, one moment he's happy and the next he's ready to murder somebody.

"Why didn't you help me before this? Why did it take you getting pulled down to my level to get you to care?!" he screamed.

"I did help! I tried! I've always cared Jack!" I said back calmly. "Bullshit! You never did anything while they hurt me!" he continued to scream a few indescribable things.

Somewhere I snapped. "Jack don't you stand there and call me a liar! I have tried to help you before! In 5th grade do you remember! Tucker was punching you on the playground and I tried to pull him off of you. He threw me and my stomach got cut on a piece of hanging metal! I had to get 15 stitches and you screamed at me saying that I was useless and couldn't help anybody!" I shout back.

I lift my shirt just below my bra is a jagged scar that goes from the middle of my right ribcage to my belly button.

He looks at the scar and I could see the regret in his eyes. "So don't you dare say I never tried to help you! I did, but apparently my efforts aren't good enough for you. Even if it involves me getting hurt!" I scream and turn away from him.

I let my tears fall freely and I sniffle. I grab my phone and begin to walk off. I ignore the calling voice of Jack as it fades off into the distance.
