During fifth period English I sat in between Lauren, Elijah and Tom in the back of the room, like always, and allowed my mind to wander as I stared the horrible part in Mrs. Vulmer's gray hair. I was awoken from my trance when Mrs. Vulmer said my name for what had been apparently the third time.

"Y/n... would you please answer my question dear?" My right leg started to rapidly bounce as I waited for someone to tell me what to do. Suddenly Tom slightly leaned in and whispered,
"We need to write in our journals everyday."

I took a deep breath and trusted this boy that I had just met and said,
"Everyday... we need to write in our journals everyday." Mrs. Vulmer raised her chin and slowly turned around. She walked extremely slow towards the front of the classroom and stopped once she got to her desk.

"I want everyone in here to write a journal entry everyday starting tonight. No one will be reading it, not even me, and you have to be purposeful. I will be checking to see if you wrote but, once again, I will not read it." She pulled out a large stack of notebooks from underneath her desk and slammed them on the desk in the front row. "Take one and pass it," she mentioned, "these are the journals you'll be writing your most powerful emotions and thoughts in, and at the end of the year-"

"We burn them!" Elijah joked and a couple of us laughed.

"Well mister, if it weren't for the heavy amounts of pollution on our planet we would do so. But since that is not the case, we will be aggressively recycling them." Mrs. Vulmer responded with.

"Aggressive recycling!" Elijah cheered as others joined in. Mrs. Vulmer ran out of notebooks to handout so she left the room to go grab some more from another teacher.

Everyone in the class was chatting up a storm when two of the popular girls walked up to Tom, making sure that their shirt collars hung low and their jean skirts were hiked up. The raven haired girl on the left lightly touched his bicep in a flirtatious way and introduced herself,
"I'm Kylie, and this is Annemarie," she gestured towards the extremely skinny and pale girl on her right, "you must be a genius to get into this school halfway through the year." They giggled.

Kylie and Annemarie weren't like most American schools' popular girls, since this is a nerd school, there aren't very many students obsessed with their looks. Therefore, Kylie and Annemarie are not drop dead gorgeous- they just aren't ugly. Well, they aren't ugly on the outside, but on the inside...

"Did your old school have a bunch of retards and fags?" Annemarie crossed her arms and smirked. Kylie pitched in, "Although this school can be just as bad. Just yesterday, this weirdo lesbian was staring at me in the locker room! What a dike."

Of course my smart ass couldn't help but give them a piece of my mind before Tom could even open his mouth.
"And what makes you think you can speak like that?" I glare at Kylie.
"I'm sorry, who are you again?" Kylie obnoxiously asked. Annemarie pitched in by saying,
"Kylie, how could you forget? She's best friends with the crazy lesbian that was all over you yesterday!" I tensed up and kept going,
"Lauren's not even gay! And if she was, that doesn't mean something is wrong-" Kylie interrupted me,
"Yes that's it! Lauren!" She flipped her hair and seductively walked towards Lauren's desk, just as she approached Tom.
"Hey girly, like the view?" Lauren had been listening but was never able to get a word in. She finally spoke up when she played along and said,
"Sorry Kylie, I only like girls that are pretty."

Kylie's face was filled with rage, Annemarie started to walk towards Kylie to back her up, but Tom stuck out his arm to stop her.

"Girls, if you're trying to impress me, you lost your chance. I'm on y/n and Lauren's side. So I highly suggest that you go sit down before Mrs. Vulmer walks in and sees how ignorant you look."

Annemarie laughed and asked,
"What do you mean we look ignorant? It's not like anyone is..." Annemarie slowly turned around to find all eyes on her, including Mrs. Vulmer, "listening."

Mrs. Vulmer wasn't raging with fire, she didn't even appear slightly angry. She just rested her hands on her hips and tapped her foot, with the look of disappointment spread across her face.
"Kylie, Annemarie, your ISS (in school suspension) forms will be waiting for you on my desk after class. Have a seat."

Everyone got settled in again and I glanced over at Tom.

"Hey, I'm sorry that happened." I felt ashamed that I technically started the fight. I just wanted to impress Tom and show him that I wasn't going to watch it all fall apart and let him deal with it.
Tom shrugged his shoulders and made eye contact with me,
"It's fine, don't worry too much. You did the right thing. We did the right thing." He gave me a small smile, although it was still genuine. I blushed and looked down at my empty notebook, wondering if this new routine would be a good thing.
