I got up from the bench we both sat on and followed him to and black and gold door. He opened and It was majestic. The room was filled with gold columns and black marble floor. Big display cases of weaponry and armor in each corner. I ran my slender fingers over the walls, the columns. One display had daggers shaped as wings and I had to have them. " Please tell me I get to use these." I shot a look of desperation.
"If it calls to you, go ahead." I smiled and headed to the next wall where I found the most beautiful armor I have ever laid eyes on. It was all white with golden wings on the shoulder.
"Can I try it on?" I jumped excitedly.
" I'll get someone to help you in it." He left out the room and came back with a female servant.
"Let me help you with that, my grace." She bowed, opening the display door. She slipped it on my body and it was the weirdest experience. I looked in the mirror as she zipped me up, and I have never looked so beautiful, so fierce. My dad came back in and handed me the two daggers and I felt a rush of warmth and power. My brown eyes burned as yellow irises. It finally stopped and I felt at one with the weaponry.
"You look like the mightiest Queen." My father clapped and then bowed. I gave him my biggest, toothiest smile. I twirled in the mirror, taking in the way I looked. You could feel the power of the weapons resonating from them. I play dueled in them and then I sat them back in the display case. I jumped at the sound of laughter, causing me to knock a decoration over. I turned to see someone emerging from the door. I picked up the little statue and returned to the mirror.
"My daughter is now a woman." I heard my mother as her heels clanked against the floor. She was everything I aspired to be. Fierce, beautiful, graceful, cold yet warm to those that matter. Her long black hair was in a braided updo as her big golden crown accented her beautiful head. Her melanated skin glowed from within as she sauntered into the room, capturing grace and power alike.
"My love, can I have a moment to speak with her alone." She kissed my fathers cheek.
"As you desire, my Queen." He departed with the servant as my mother took her place behind me.
"You're as beautiful as a thousand suns, mightier than any mountain, and the crown you bare welcomes you as royalty." She placed a sun pendant around my neck. ''I am so proud of you." I turned to look into her stunning chocolate eyes. I wrapped my arms around her tiny waist and squeezed.
"Thank you, mama." I finally let go.
"That pendant I gave you is a family heirloom. It was worn by every Queen of Icaria." She cleared her throat. "As Queen, you will be pushed to the limits, make choices, sacrifices even." She paused. "That necklace is our direct line to the sun, and will only work around an Icarian natives neck." She grabbed my hand. "When I'm gone, remember you're never alone. Just use the necklace, she will answer you anytime." A tear fell from her face. " As Queen, you will have to be cold and know when to thaw." She played with a string on her dress.
"Keep our legacy alive young one, and if you can't, then die trying." She pulled my hand to her lips. "That is the burden we carry. Look after your brothers, they look up to you." She got up. "Now, you've trained with your father, now it's my turn." She pulled a blade from her side. I laughed and nodded.
"Lead your way to the garden." I followed her out.
