Katniss POV
I try to hold back tears as I drive Peeta to the airport. He and my sister's boyfriend, Finnick got called back to the army.
they got called back to the Army not one hour ago.
I have a bad feeling in my stomach, that feels like its trying to force chocked sobs out of me.
I drive slowly and steadily but we still arrive at the airport.
I park the car and turn to Peeta in the passenger seat and hug him, tightly.
"I'll come back", he tells me.
"I'll be here waiting, with open arms", I say, trying to hold back a waterfall of tears.
I walk with him into the airport, where so many wives, husbands, children, parents, friends, pets and other family are saying possible last goodbyes to their army soldier.
"Katniss?", Peeta takes my left hand.
"I know this is a very bad time to ask, and I wish I could have done this somewhere else but I have to ask...
Katniss Everdeen, I have been completely in love with you for a long time. I love your kindness, bravery, willpower, friendliness, and everything about you. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?", he asks on his knee with a ring in his hand.
"Yes", I whisper.
"Yes, yes, yes!", I say louder.
He slips the golden ring onto my finger.
And for that moment the day was perfect, until a booming ruins it
"Soldiers please board the plane to Afghanistan."
"Bye, I love you", Peeta said kissing my lips lightly.
"I love you too.," I say as he starts walking away.
"Peeta! wait, take my Mockingjay pin", I say pinning the little golden pin onto his jacket.
"to protect you", I whisper, kissing his cheek.
He walks away and disappears into the plane with Finnick and many other soldiers. I noticed Annie's seashell necklace around his neck.
Annie walks to my side crying silently.
We leave the airport in silence.
Just silence.
