The Smiling Doll Game

This game is very similar to One Man Hide and Seek. According to the source the difference lies in the dolls reaction. Instead of confronting you, if it discovers your hiding place it will be smiling at the end of the game. The source also states that this game is far more dangerous than One Man Hide and Seek, so proceed with caution. Also note that I personally feel that playing this game in your own home would be a big mistake and should ideally be avoided.

You need two tall mirrors that you don't mind destroying, a humanoid type doll, an alarm clock, a candle of any colour (not black or red), a blindfold, a second doll to use as a scapegoat, a single hair strand and five spoonfuls of salt.

Both mirrors should be placed facing each other with the unlit candle in the middle. This game should be started at midnight, so you may wish to make your initial preparations in advance. The scapegoat doll is intended as a distraction. You should tie a piece of your own hair onto it as tightly as possible. You should now hide this doll far away from where you intend to hide, but as close to the original doll as possible. This scapegoat doll will give you time to hide, that is why it should be closer to the original doll than your own hiding place. Hide it well as some variations state that it could be dangerous should the spirit claim the strand of hair and leave you at risk of possession. Some suggest hiding it within a nest of boxes, like a set of Russian dolls

At midnight go to the room with the mirrors and candle. Now you say five times, 'I will leave a new body here for you in the shape of a doll'. Now place the original doll in front of the candle. You should then add, 'let's play' five more times. You may feel strange or uncomfortable at this point, which means things are proceeding as they should, but if you don't, all is not lost. At this point if you feel any sensation of pressure on your body you should immediately abort the game.

You can still change your mind by sprinkling salt and basil (50/50) on both of the mirrors and the doll. The doll should be salted and burned before you move the mirrors. Once you have done this you should place the ashes of the doll into running water as far from you as possible. The mirrors should then be taken apart, salted and destroyed, buried as far from each other as possible.

Keeping the salt with you, if you wish to proceed then now say, 'find me please. I allow x amount of minutes. Once the alarm sounds, your power fades and you must return from whence you came. If you win I offer my life as tribute'. Obviously, replace x with the amount of minutes you wish to play the game.

Please note, the longer the game goes on, the more likely the doll is to find you. Most sources suggest starting with one or two minutes as you can play this game again. You should now set the alarm for the time you wish the game to end. Once this is done you should cover the dolls eyes with a blindfold and say, 'the game begins'.

You should now head to your chosen hiding place, sprinkle a little salt on yourself and hide. The original doll should now be searching for the scapegoat. One variation suggests finding a hiding place large enough so that you can sit in a circle of salt for the duration of the game. Once you are settled you should wait for the game to be played. Do not leave the hiding place until the alarm sounds.

Once the game is over you should take the salt with you and go to the room with the mirrors/candles. In front of the candle you say, 'you lose, the game is done. Thank you for playing'. Sprinkle salt on yourself and blow out the candle. You should now try to find the original doll and scapegoat and sprinkle salt on both. The original source says that within three days of the ending of the game you should send the original doll to a shrine so they can perform a ritual to soothe the spirit. I would more likely destroy it using the stages mentioned above.

You should also dispose of the mirrors using the steps listed above. You should smudge through every room in the house. Some suggest leaving out offerings for the spirit before doing this to appease it. You should also destroy the scapegoat, but reclaim your hair before you do so and burn that as well.

Please note, if at the end of the game the doll is smiling your life is in grave danger. You should avoid lingering in dark places and continue to smudge the rooms every day until you feel safe. Also avoid looking for long into mirrors or reflective surfaces.

You must play alone.

Do not make a sound while the original doll is searching for you.

Do not run away without finishing the game properly.

Do not leave the house while playing.

End the game before the sun comes up. Do not play for too long or the doll may find you.

If you choose to replay the game use completely new materials and do not hide the scapegoat or yourself in the same place. As always, you play this game at your own risk
