It had been about 30 minutes, and I was already exhausted. I shuffled to a stop at a bench in front of a stretch of apartments, and laid down. I was almost asleep when I heard voices whispering from a nearby, dark alley. The rain had gotten harder and each drop felt like a needle piercing my skin. The whispering got louder, and all the sleep was whisked from me when I heard feet shuffling towards me. I sat up and squinted my eyes, attempting to see through the rain. I could make out three figures standing about 3 feet in front of me. "What do you want with me?", I asked in a small voice. One of them laughed a throaty laugh and stepped closer to me. Everything seemed to happen in slow-motion. The one who laughed drew back his fist, then rammed it into my nose. I fell off the bench, screaming loudly, clutching my now bleeding, nose.

The other two men jumped me, punching everything in reach. I screamed and thrashed, trying to fight back. Suddenly, one of them rammed my head into the bench, causing my vision to go blurry. Right before I blacked out, I heard yelling, then somebody picked me up gently. The last thing I saw was blue-green eyes, full of concern, before darkness overwhelmed me
