Suspicion

Var was looking around her den as she slowly opened her eyes to a new blissful morning, but Var didn't have a feeling of soft smooth bliss. She was suspicious and on edge as the dawn's light filled her eyes with warmth and comfort. It wasn't quite a spring morning  nor a summer morning. Just a soft warm morning, but Var wasn't the only one who has woken. Skydda, her elder brother by ten moons, has woken to the soft morning as well and was getting ready to hunt.  However, it was strange that their father Korp was not with him, but Skydda was twenty- eight moons then and in seven moons time he would be considered an adult. So, little Var put her mind at ease as she began to move around the small den that was called home.

When Var's mother Lilja had woken Var had begun to follow her and help with her mother's chores. Lilja was one of the spiritual females in the clan and was one of few who could change into a human's shape. Lilja also had a very special gift that represented her as descendant of their goddess Mane, goddess of the moon. So, there was a lot of hope for Var to have a special ability too, but the ability itself doesn't show itself until the cub has reached their twentieth moon. However, Lilja was patient and had faith in Var having an ability because Skydda did not have an ability nor Var's father Korp.

As the rest of the clan had risen, Lilja had begun to open her special gift which was clairvoyance. However, this gift came at the price of Lilja not being able to move because Lilja was moving around in the future she saw to get as much information as she could, but Lilja's clairvoyance was subjective and wasn't always right. So, Var would aid her mother by sitting by her side and protecting her, as much as the cub had to offer, from other creatures that could harm her, but Lilja's vision was short and  on that day as Lilja's eyes slowly open, she had a small tear run from her eye down to her mouth.

Then Lilja sortly said in a low comforting voice to Var, " Do not fret my child, for my vision has shown that your suspicions are not wrong nor right. I'd be careful in the path you tread from because soon the stars may realign on your twentieth moon and change your destiny forever. However, there was a good sign that an ability from within you will grow and show itself as new member of the Stark clan for the world to know. However, this ability may be a blessing and a curse because what I saw was many possible gifts and many possible prices. Your decisions now as your final daylights of being a cub will help determine your ability as you development becomes more refined. So, my child enjoy the moments in your final daylights as cub because it maybe the last moment you have for many moons to come."

Lilja had gone into a position expecting a reply from her young daughter, and Var understood what her mother said. However, it took a little bit of time to put the right words together. However, Lilja patiently waited for little Var's reply by coming closer to Var and comforting her. Making sure Var wasn't made uncomfortable and off put by her statement.

However, Var had eventually gathered the right words and begun to speak in a smooth, relaxed, and accepting tone to her caring mother, " Mother I understand what you mean and I accept my stars my change, and will be careful in the path I tread, but -".

Lilja expression changed as Var stopped speaking from a relaxed expression to a concerned expression. So, in response to her daughter's hesitance Lilja had rubbed her paw against Var's far shoulder and begun to hum a familiar tune that always was a calming tone to Var. Only after humming until sun was in full view across the horizon.

Var began to speak again, but her tone changed from acceptance to empty, worried, and anxious for what she was about to say to her mother, but after a deep breath Var continued what she was saying. " -but if these are the final daylights for me. Does that mean the price of what could be my ability is death, the loss of the clan, or even losing the family I hold dear. If that is the case then I will cherish my final daylights as a cub, but what do you mean by that. Does my final daylights come from what ability could be, or are my suspicions of the quite correct.

Var's fear of making her mother uncomfortable came true because Lilja's paw stopped. Var started worrying, thinking about what she could do to fix the situation. Var was trying to find any solution to the predicament she was in. She was going throughout her mind to find the solution, then after a pondering in silence for a while. Var put her paw on her mother's and and flashed a comforting smile, but Var's eyes were saying something else entirely. Var's eyes were curious, scared, worried about  her mother's silence.

Then Lilja finally said something in a concerned, relaxed, and conceded tone to Var. " My daughter there is many ways that you go into sorrow after your twentieth moon. However, I'm sorry to say that in every future I entered you were ultimately alone. Without our clan and family, and most of all your home. So, your suspicions are correct."

Var expression of relaxation from her mother's reply became an expression of pure fear. Pure fear of herself and wht her ability could be. Var started panicking on the inside, panicking because she was scared of what she would become and the price of her stars aligning to a new destiny. Still this feeling startilization and panic continued to stir in Var. Var began ask questions in her head like, "What is going to happen to me, my family, my clan?!". "Why are my suspicions correct?".  "What should I do with my daylights from now on knowing this information?". As the questions circled an swirled in Var's mind. Lilja got more concerned not because she thought Var couldn't take in the information, but because of Var's look of fear and consistent silence after her reply.

However, the silence was quickly broken and Korp, her father, entered that area of the den and announced his presence.
