I Fell in Love with my Best Friend

  It was raining. Again. As we drove down the road, I leaned my head against the window. My hand was on my face as I stared at the raindrops sliding down the glass. The radio was playing today's biggest hits. I heard Mom talking on the phone with someone. Probably another coworker. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard her say my name to the person on the phone. "Oh yeah. I agree. She really does need to interact more with other kids her age." I rolled my eyes as I looked back out the window. "We can meet up sometime so she can meet him! Oh yeah definitely. We can meet up tomorrow when school is over. Okay see you there! Okay bye." She hung up. "So. Who are you trying to set me up with this time?" I said annoyed. She sighed and looked at me "You will be nice to him, Bella. I promise to you he is not like the others. You will like him." I scoffed and replied "Well you said that the last 5 times you had me meet one of your boss's sons!" I could tell she was trying not to lose her temper. She breathed in a deep breath and slowly said "Well the bad impressions you made with the sons caused me to lose my job, so please just be nice this time."

 I threw my hands up and yelled "Well fine but don't expect me to make any promises! If he is like the others I will be mean but if he is nice I'll be his friend. Don't expect me to date a stranger mom!" She huffed and said "I don't expect you to date him, I expect good manners. Tomorrow, as you have heard, they are meeting us after school and we are all going out to dinner. I really like his boss and this job. Don't make me lose this job. I beg you. I'll let you go out more with your friends, I'll buy you any food you want tonight, just please be good." 

She looked like she was about to cry. I sighed "Any food?" and she nodded. I sighed a deeper sigh and replied "Well okay then. I'll be nice. But if he is mean I won't be nice. Understood?" She nodded. "Okay then." As I said that we pulled into the parking lot of the school. All my friends were waiting by the entrance for me waving like mad. I smiled. I looked back over at mom and she was avoiding eye contact. I smiled at her and and hugged her. She hesitated but hugged me back. She whispered into my hair "I love you. You know that?" I nodded and replied softly "Yes, Mom. You tell me everyday. I love you, too. I gotta go now." I pulled away and got out of the car. I turned back and said before she left "Drive safely." I shut the door and walked away.
