Leave The Rest Behind

I sat on the sandy playground with my two year old baby girl. She smiled and played as if she wasn't the product of rape. I mean, I love her to pieces, but I'm glad her father rots in jail.

I looked at my surroundings, a habit I picked up ever since that night. I noticed a group of odd looking, tattooed men walking around. It was almost threatening, but I knew it was wrong to judge a book by it's cover. One of them turned and looked at me, to a point that he was staring for a while. It frightened me and I pulled myself closer to my baby.

As we played, things got better. It was all good until a shadow blocked our light. It was one of the men from earlier. I almost panicked as I stood up with my baby at my hip. She was pulling at my hair and putting it over her head to pretend she had long hair.

"H-hi." The man blushed.

"Hi, may I help you?" I was skeptical.

"I...I just...I just came over to talk." He scratched the back of his head. "I'm Beau." He stuck out his hand. I shook it slowly and awkwardly.

"I'm (Y/N)." I loosened up a bit. "And this is (Y/B/N)."

"I...I think you're very...beautiful." He gulped. I started laughing.

"I'm sorry?" I cocked my head. "If I'm correct, I think you're trying something."

"Maybe." He winked, starting to grow confidence.

"I think...maybe we could do something." I nodded. I could just give it a shot.

"You know what...yeah, yeah! Will you go out with me?" He nodded obnoxiously.

"Yes." I smiled.

A YEAR LATER

Who knew that one night could lead to so many more. Beau and I have been together for a while now. I never really hung out with his band and they never really met my daughter either. I was still a bit skeptical of them because I never knew them. Either way, I knew that Beau would protect me.

Beau invited me out to see them record some new music. I couldn't get a baby-sitter, so I had to bring (Y/B/N) with me. It wasn't that much of a problem since Beau would be working.

"Hi, (Y/N)!" Jared smiled and waved. I shyly waved back as others began greeting me.

"Who's this cute one?" Matt wondered.

"That's my girl." Beau smiled. (Y/B/N) started giggling and reaching out towards him.

"You never told me you had a baby!" Elliot shouted.

"He's..." I stuttered. I thought for a minute. "Yes. Beau and I are very happy together." I giggled.

Beau smiled at me sweetly before walking back outside in the night.

"Is everything okay?" I wondered.

"Yeah, yeah." Beau was nearly in tears, looking at the pavement.

"Are you sure?" I wondered.

"I...you called (Y/B/N) mine." His face was bright.

"Yeah, you've been very fatherly to her. I think you deserve the title. Lord knows her real father doesn't." I rolled my eyes.

"I love you." He gulped, choking on tears.

"I love you, too." I smiled. I know he'll keep me safe for a long time.
