Selected from all five categories, the GF Wattys Special Awards highlight the best of the "hidden gems," spectacular writing, creativity, and the best rendition of an alternate universe. All works were considered for these honors without bias, but only four shining works were chosen. The judges have put a lot of thought into this, and we're thrilled to present these Special Awards.

The Hidden Gem award highlights the best fanfiction under 5,000 reads, or our diamond in the rough, if you will. This was a tough award to assign, as there was a surplus of good options. After a fair amount of deliberation, we finally decided on the winning entry, which displays excellent characters and an engaging writing style.

From the Role Swap and Originality categories, the winner of the Hidden Gem award is. . .

Reverse Falls - A Gravity Falls AU by Lucy-the-Cat!

The Best AU award goes to the best alternate universe fanfiction. There were plenty of great choices this year, but one particular work really stood out. This story's plot and characters enthralled us, and its author beyond deserves the award for the time and energy she's put into making this work spectacular.

From the Role Swap category, the winner of the Best AU award is. . .

The Writing award highlights the best piece of piece of writing in the awards. Through all of the entries, there was a clear winner that made our mouths gape in awe. This work's style is incredibly detailed yet well-paced, and makes all of us aspire to write like this author does.

From the One Shot category, the winner of the Writing award is. . .

Defying Gravity [Gravity Rises One Shots] by BasilGrey!

The Creativity award highlights the most creative (but not to the point of muddling with the storyline) work in the awards. The winning work's concept was something that we've never read before, and was something that worked in a story without coming off as too out there.

From the Originality category, the winner of the Creativity award is. . .

Time Can Only Tell by DisneyFaller

The winners' works will be treated with the same honors as a first place winner, so you'll each receive a cover, placement on the GF Wattys Winners reading list, and a follow from WriterFalls. Congratulations to all four of you!
