The end of the day came sooner than I thought.

Mr. Gerald who had left before any of us told us we didn't have to stay until six and could leave after five if we wanted.

"But I want you here Monday bright and early Lendal," he jokes with me with a warning, "You can't keep arriving late got it!"

"You got it Gerald!" I sung to him lying through my teeth, all while smiling. I watch him leave but not before he exchanges a few words with Henry. I try to push my curiosity down because they look too happy, as if there was something secretive going on.

"Are you going?" Nina leans over to ask me.

"Early? Sure," I shrug, "I'm mostly done with everything anyways."

"No I mean the dinner party?"

I look at her questionably, "What dinner party?"

"Mr. Gerald asked me to go with him today after I finished my presentation..." she smile innocently blinking and twirling her hair around fingers, "I told him definitely even though it's so last minute. But you know... it'd be rude to say no to my boss right?"

"Nina what?" I make a face looking at her then look back over at Henry, "Is that what they're talking about right now?"

"Probably," then she adds tentatively, "Maybe you should ask Henry to take you. He's going too and doesn't have a date."

"And how exactly can you confirm this?"

"Evan told me-"

"First. Name. Bases. Is that what we're doing now?" I speak in reference to Mr. Gerald his first name being Evan.

"He insisted," She smiles sweetly again.

"Well I'm not going." I finalize for her.

"Why?" She whines and I suck my teeth.

"Ain't nobody trying to go out with that man. I hate Henry and you know that."

She makes a face that suggest she both doesn't believe me and wanted to laugh, "Sure ain't look like that at the meeting."

"I dropped my papers."

"Yeah and it took you a good minute just to pick them back up."

"Things happen."

"Looks like things are happening alright."

I huff out heavily and chose not to reason with her. I was growing agitated. It wasn't her business, if I didn't want to go out with Henry then I didn't want to go out with Henry. Really though... I felt as if this wasn't fair. But he was never really ever fair. He does what he wants when he wants and that was what really made me mad.

"Why are you so mad?" Nina asks me.

"I'm not Nina. I'll think about it okay..." I say just to get her off my back and ease the conversation.

"You better..." She mumbles and I shrug at her. The hour after soon passes and both Nina and I packed our things to go. On our way out I talked about everything except the dinner party, hoping she wouldn't bring it up again. And she didn't thankfully. Until Henry showed up.
