trigger warning: mentions of self harm
"to be, or not to be. that is the question." you wanna know the meaning of that? it's about whether to kill yourself or not. to stay alive, or not to stay alive, pretty much. a very famous quote from shakespeare's hamlet. say, dustin, you were in drama class with me, do you remember preforming hamlet? well, you should, you were prince hamlet after all.
it's a shame we didn't get to act on stage together, it would have been fun. if only
i hadn't broken my leg. cause it was completely my fault. right?"alright everyone, listen up." miss andrews tried to calm down the 15 excited students. "so this year for our annual play, we will be preforming shakespeare's hamlet!" most of the class groaned, and so they should. i mean, who would want to preform a play by some guy that died in 1616 and who's language doesn't even make sense? "oh come on, it'll be fun! i promise you guys will enjoy it." the young teacher said with a wide grin on her face. will smiled to himself. he enjoyed studying shakespeare. he found the language fascinating and creative, plus he thought it was fun to use words that he didn't understand the meaning of half the time. "so auditions will be held next friday at lunch. a copy of the audition script will be given to you via your homeroom teachers. that's all for today, class dismissed. and good luck everyone!" the blonde teacher yelled as her students rushed out the door, eager to get home on a friday afternoon. "bye will, bye max, see ya monday." beverly marsh called to her two friends as she walked out the door and disappeared into the crowd of students.
"hey will you wanna walk home together?" the red headed girl asked her smaller friend. will would have loved to walk home with max, talking about cute boys and betting on whether lucas or richie would get a detention first. but sadly, he had one more lesson to attend. with troy. "um, sorry max but i, i've got... some errands to run. yeah, errands." will gave small smile. "alright then, see you on monday." max walked out of the drama room, her heart sinking a little. she thought that will still hadn't forgiven her from that night at the party a few months ago. and that was also why she sat with troy now; as well as the fact that lucas forced her to, but drama class was the only place she got to spend time with will and bev without her stupid boyfriend judging her. but of course, will had forgiven her. he forgave her a week after it happened; he just never thought to say it.
will waited anxiously behind the school for troy to show up, biting his bottom lip and digging his nails into the palms of his hands. two habits he had picked up due to anxiety. "hey there fairy, good to see you're on time." troy sneered as will took a few steps back, a lump forming in his throat. "y'know byers, i was thinking today. you deserve a break. it's only fair that you get some time off your lessons, you are the best student after all." troy smirked, leaning against the cold brick wall. the smaller boy furrowed his eyebrows in confusion "w-what do you mean?" troy laughed pushing himself off the wall and walked towards will. "do i really need to spell it out for you, fag? i'm not going to beat you up. you've got three weeks off." will didn't know what to say. was troy being serious? should he trust him? "oh." was all he managed to say as the older boy placed a hand on his shoulder. "i'll see ya round, byers." he walked off, leaving the small boy standing alone and confused.
