"If you don't take the throne then who will? I can't be the King forever," Caleb's Dad told Caleb when he refused to take his Dad's title once he stepped down as King.

"Not me," Caleb replied.

"Why not? What is so bad about being King that you are refusing to rule over the Kingdom once I step down,"

"Everything, it is too much responsibility that I don't want to carry on my shoulders. I don't want to have the Kingdom's safety on my mind for the rest of my life. I want to find my mate and dedicate my life to her not be King and be apart from her like you are from Mum every day,"

"That's not true Caleb and you know it. Your Mum and spend plenty of time together every day, I'm not acting as the King for the entire day you know. I have 1 meeting every day for an hour and the rest of the day I am free to do as I please with your Mum,"

"Ugh! Dad! I don't want to hear how much time you are spending with Mum and don't even think about going into detail about what you're doing together because the thought of what you're doing together makes me sick.

I really don't care how little time you have to dedicate to being the King. I just don't want to be the King. You need to respect that because I won't change my mind,"

"I can't respect that when you are the only one inline to the throne, there is no one else who could take my place other than you,"

"There must be," Caleb refused to believe he was the only one in line for the throne. "I must have some cousins or something who can take the throne,"

"There is but they haven't been trained to be in Power. It would take years to train them. You have been trained since you got Jett making you the perfect candidate. You could take over the position without any notice,"

"That's not the point, I don't want to be King and I won't. That is final," Caleb decided before beginning to walk away from his Dad.

"Wait," the King tried to stop his son. "You can't just walk away, I'm still talking to you,"

"Well, I'm done," Caleb disagreed before spreading his wings out and picking up speed until he was in his room where Jett was waiting for him.

Without a thought, Caleb grabbed Jett's leash and took a now excited Jett for a walk. He needed to let off some steam after the argument he'd just had with his Dad. Caleb had told his Dad many times that he had no intentions of being King and never would change his mind but the King refused to take no for an answer since he was set on Caleb being the next King. He couldn't trust anyone else and didn't want to waste years training Caleb's cousins who didn't know a thing about being leaders.

Caleb and Jett's walk began as it usually did. They took the normal path and Caleb was calming down. He really couldn't believe his Dad was set on him being the next King when he knew Caleb wanted nothing to do with the ruling of the Demon world.

Caleb was too lost in his thought to realise they had stepped onto new territory and Jett hadn't alerted him because he was too busy enjoying his daily run to even notice their surroundings. Caleb cursed himself for taking his eye off the ball, someone could have easily snatched Jett away from him while he hadn't been watching but thankfully nothing of the sort had occurred. Jett was safe.

Caleb told Jett to stop so he could take in their new surroundings. He glanced at the path to see crystal elements were beginning to appear into it. Caleb was intrigued, he and Jett began to follow the path. The further they got, the more crystal was forming the path.

After a few minutes, they could see the end of the path where there stood a majestic crystal palace. Caleb was surprised, he had never heard of such a palace and now there was one a short distance in front of him. He had to see what was inside. Was there a new breed of demon inside or a new species altogether that he didn't know of? There was only one way to find out.

Caleb was about to step forward but he heard some footsteps approaching and hurriedly rushed behind a bush with Jett to see two people heading their way. What was noticeable of these people was their white wings and identical crystal pendants they wore around their necks. Caleb knew they weren't demons and questioned to himself what they could be while Jett looked on quietly in confusion.

The two white winged beings entered the castle. Caleb wanted to know more about them but didn't think it would be safe to follow them inside. He and Jett crept out of their hiding place to head around the palace to the back where Caleb immediately spotted a balcony high above.

There was no one around apart from them, Caleb decided to fly up to the balcony. When he saw that it was clear, he looked through the window and that's when the whole world stopped as Caleb's eyes landed on her for the first time.
