It was his soul mate and she was the most beautiful being Caleb had ever seen. She had a small slim build. She was a brunette with matching eyes and soft facial features. One striking feature were her black wings coming out of her top, they were like Caleb's but a little smaller and more feminine looking. Caleb was confused, he thought only Demons such as himself had black wings. All the beings had white wings in the place he had stumbled upon so why did his mate not have them too? Caleb had no clue what was going on but he was amazed, he didn't expect to find the one he was destined with and in such an unlikely place. He wanted to go over to the beautiful girl and pull her into his arms where she would remain forever but he knew it wouldn't be wise as she didn't know he even existed. She'd probably find it creepy to be held by someone she didn't know. Caleb thought before he decided to just watch her in silence without her knowing for now despite how much he wanted to introduce himself to her.
The more Caleb looked, the more he began to fall in love with the beautiful creature before him. He realised he could watch her all day and never get bored. Jett was beginning to get restless below the balcony so Caleb told him to jump onto the balcony and lay down. Jett did so without a fuss. He curled up onto the ground and soon after fell asleep for only his purrs to be heard.
Caleb was about to take a chance of getting his mate's attention but then there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Caleb's mate replied in an angelic voice.
"It's only me Avery," replied a female voice. Avery is a beautiful name.
"What is it?"
"Just seeing how you are,"
"I'm fine Mum. I told you I want to be on my own," Avery rolled her eyes in annoyance which Caleb found endearing.
"You are always on your own. Always stuck in your room, you never come out,"
"That's how I like it,"
"Well it's not healthy, I want you down for meals from now on or else,"
"But mum," Avery whined which Caleb from adorable.
"No buts, lunch will be ready soon and I expect to see you at the dining table,"
Avery groaned again before her mum left her to it. Avery sighed and got back to lazing around comfortably on her bed. She wasn't interested in leaving her room because she felt like she didn't belong among the other angels because of the colour of her wings. Why are my wings black anyway? Angels have white wings but mine are black. Mum says it's perfectly normal but I don't believe her and the other angels look at me strangely when they see my wings. I prefer staying in my room, that way no one will see my wings and I don't have to worry about the stares. Avery thought to herself. I wish my wings were white then I could go out freely without anyone questioning the colour of them. I feel so odd being the only angel with black wings. It isn't right, I know it isn't.
Avery sighed once more, she was so bored. She ended up looking out the balcony window and that's when she noticed Caleb. Their eyes connected and Avery gasped and whispered "Mate,"
Caleb knew he'd been spotted by his mate and his heart nearly stopped as they eyes connected for the first time.
Avery jumped off her bed and walked towards the balcony to get a better look at her mate. She couldn't believe it, she never thought she would meet her mate when she never left her room. She didn't need to, her mate had found her.
When Avery had reached the balcony doors, she opened it slowly before checking out her mate. He was gorgeous, he had short black hair and black eyes, he was very handsome too with a strong build. Then she noticed Caleb's wings. He has black wings like me, maybe I'm not the only Angel with black wings after all.
"Hi," Caleb was the first to speak after they had both took in the other.
"Hi," Avery smiled. "I'm Avery,"
"I'm Caleb,"
"How did you get here?"
"I stumbled upon the palace and was intrigued, what exactly are you beings? I have never see one of your kind before today,"
"We're angels," Avery replied. "What are you?"
"I'm Demon," Caleb couldn't believe it. His mate was an angel. Angel and Demons weren't known to be on good terms so why they were paired as mates ? Caleb didn't understand but he wouldn't change his mate for the world. She was perfect and wasn't about to let her go not now or ever.
"Oh,"
Then there was a silence.
"You shouldn't be here," Avery broke the silence a while later just as Jett was beginning to stir from his sleep. "If someone sees you, you'll be killed,"
"No one will see me," Caleb was confident. No one had seen him so far and most likely they wouldn't any time soon.
"You don't know that. What if someone had already seen you?"
"They haven't, we were hidden,"
"We?" Avery questioned in confusion. Caleb signalled a now wide awake Jett towards them and Jett happily made his way to Caleb's side.
"This is my pet Jett," Caleb introduced with pride.
"He's adorable," Avery commented and Jett purred before doing the unexpected, he trotted up to Avery and rubbed her leg.
"I think he's telling you he likes you," Caleb smiled before Avery hesitantly held out her hand to pet the Panther. Jett happily brought his head to Avery's hand and she began to pet him with a smile.
Before Jett decided to get comfortable at Avery's feet, Caleb said he had to go even though he didn't want to go anywhere.
"Oh ok," Avery said with clear disappointed.
"Don't worry, you'll see me again. We are mates after all," Caleb acknowledged the elephant in the room and Avery blushed. "I'll see you soon,"
Caleb noticed a strand of Avery's hair come out from behind her ear. He reached forward and tucked it back behind her ear gently before he reluctantly left with Jett by his side.
