I'm getting rid of the song lyric titles because they were too confusing. I'm going to be changing the rest later, maybe. In advance, sorry for any typos.
A/N: okay I'm writing this because SCHOOL SHOOTINGS NEED TO STOP. Period. In light of the recent Texas shooting, I felt it was necessary to write this chapter, because no matter what, we know that it's no longer safe. School used to be a place where it was supposed to be safe. It's no longer the same. Along with earthquake and fire drills, we now have Gun shooting drills added. This isn't right. It needs to stop. Now let's continue on:Ashley pov:
I sat yet again in the boring classroom of Mr. Johnson. Math class. Just one more class and school was over. I looked over the seat next to me to take a glance at my boyfriend of 3 years, Gerald. He looked into the wall on the opposite side of the classroom, twirling a pencil with his fingers.
"Okay class, can anyone tell me what the answer to this equation is?" Me. Johnson asked.
Naturally, no one raised their hands.
"Ashley?"
"Woah yeah, what?" I said startled.
I turned red as I could hear everyone laughing at me, with Gerald's chuckle standing formidably out from the rest.
"Ummm 49?", I guessed
He sighed. "See me after class Ashley"
I groaned and made a mental note to try to pay more attention in Math class.
But that's when I heard it.
A single glorified gunshot.
Followed by dozens more.
"Class! Don't panic! Make a blockade with your desks! Take cover, and be quiet!" Me. Johnson yelled. I had never seen him so serious in my life. I sat dazed until Gerald grabbed my arm.
"Ashley! Come here" he said, pulling me to him.
He was walking toward the long cabinets in the back side of the classroom. The wooden space was big enough for two people.
He opened the door. And held it for me. Quickly I stepped in, with Gerald following suit. Shutting the door, he faced me in the dark, holding my hand.
"What are we going to do?" I whispered.
"Shhh" he said, putting a finger to my lips.
"Wait".Gerald pov:
I held Ashley's hand in the dark straining to hear what was going on beyond the wooden door. I could hear everyone deathly quiet. But I could also hear the nonstop gunshots in the background.
Just then, I knew our room door had been opened. It swung open with a loud bang, followed by yells for help. Footsteps followed accompanied by the loud sound of gunshots. I pulled Ashley in a hug, as I could feel her shaking in terror. I heard the loud screams of chaos, and I knew she could too. I grit my teeth and tried to keep my breaths quiet in hope the shooter wouldn't discover us.
My shirt was getting wet, and I knew it was Ashley's tears soaking into them. But thankfully she wasn't making a sound. I heard the gunshots disperse and slowly get farther away. I lifted Ashley's head up to mine.
"It's going to be okay baby" I whispered in her ear.
"No it's not, Gerald. It's never going to be the same." She said in between tears.
"I know" I sadly said. I could feel tears of my own slipping out.
Sliding to the floor, I pulled her down with me. Wrapping my arm around her, I let her cry into my shoulder. Here we were. 2 teenagers in a closet, in the middle of a gun shooting at our High School. At this point, we only had each other.
