Description: "Can you survive the deepest mysteries of space?"
After the tragedy at Cosmic 5, David Bell finds himself fighting for his life, and matching wits against the worst villains in the universe. Can David overcome the challenges ahead? Or will he crumble into the never-ending void. . . of the Deep Cosmos.First off, my overall opinion of the book.
I have to say that this was a really good read! It was definitely different from other sci-fi novels that I've read, and I especially enjoyed the second half of the book- I felt that it really came together there. Great job, @ProjectKyle! (I noticed that you are going to write a second one, and I'm excited to read it once you've written it)Review
Grammer/Spelling: Grammar needs some work, such as the placing of quotation marks ("). Watch out especially for extra or missing periods (.) and exclamation marks (!). One thing I noticed about your action scenes was that you used a lot of exclamation marks. When you're writing actions, exclamation marks aren't used as much. They're generally used more for speech. Spelling was really good overall. The only other thing I noticed was that you mixed up words occasionally (your instead of you're; threw instead of through), but that didn't take away from the reading too much.
Points: .5Plot: The first half of the book felt a little all over the place, but the second half was amazing! I felt as if the first part was focused more on Dr. Crimson, but the second turned to Experiment 1. Over the course of the book Dr. Crimson's importance leveled out a bit, and it was a pretty smooth move into the second half of the book. I like how Cosmic 5 connected the story; it was definately an often mention throughout the book.
Points: .5Character Development: I just have to say upfront that David Bell/Nerd is my favorite character. The way that you slowly learn more about him and realize who he really is as a person was such an adventure. What I find particularly interesting about this story is that Nerd doesn't really change a lot in character, rather he begins to let more people get to know him. He opens up and you as the reader begin to realize that he is human; with flaws and quirks and an individual personality. My only negative on 'character development' is that while Nerd became very real to me, Sophia didn't achieve quite that height. Her backstory is mysteriously and slowly revealed, which held my attention. However, her backstory and development is sort-of pushed aside by Nerd's. Besides that, great job!
Points: 1Originality: I enjoyed the fact that travel across the galaxy is not instantanious (rather it takes a few hours or days). I've read far too many books where travel happens instantly or in a few seconds. It seemed more realistic to me, together with the fact that the equipment they had in the story was not too far off from our own, with a few awesome alterations. Another thing I noted was the fact that it was set in 2009-2010, rather than thousands of years in the future like many other sci-fi books set in space. Really enjoyed the travel to the planet Obian at the end, where you got to show the readers the ancient temple and some other alien civilizations! Very cool concepts you had here, and I would definately say many origional ones.
Points: 1Emotion: I could definately feel the emotion during the times when Nerd was confessing some things about himself to Sophia. I could really feel the effort you put in the book there. I could also tell the emotion from scenes where Nerd, Sophia, and Henry were joking and talking together.
