You learn more from losing than winning.
The ride to our mystery destination was filled with jokes about the Seal Bay team and thoughts on how else to get back at them. I wasn't really listening, though. I was too concentrated on what we were currently going to do.
I'm not sure what Tori meant by: we were going to show the team how it felt like to lose. We couldn't possibly sabotage the Seal Bay softball team- their season was over. I could tell by the road we were on that we were heading towards the Seal Bay school, though. Were we going to trash the trophies they had won?
A squeal escapes the girls in the back, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"We're here!" says Kali, a bright smile on her face.
The green and white Seal Bay Charter High School stood out amongst the darkening blue sky. Behind the school lay the softball and baseball fields. A hill stretched upward from the left side of the school, where on top rested the football field. The tennis court and soccer field can be seen to the right of the building.
Breanna parks her silver Jeep within a sea of new, pristine cars belonging to the Seal Bay students. As we all exit the car, I grow increasingly confused.
"Are we trashing the school dance or something? What's with all the cars?"
Breanna laughs. "Gosh, no. For a captain you really don't look at sports schedules."
Okay, I'm even more confused. "The game against us was Seal Bay's last softball game." I say, exiting the car.
"She said sports schedules," Tori cuts in, racing ahead of us towards the back of the school. "The guys have a baseball game tonight. That's why we're here."
We're sabotaging the guys' team?
As if to answer my mind's question, Kali continues, "Since the girls don't have any games left, and the guys from Seal Bay were the ones heckling you, we thought it would be great revenge to do the same to them!"
I have no words.
The girls lead me around the school, where the baseball diamond comes into view. The captains are already on the field, staring at the other while the umpire states the rules. Everyone else is already here, but our bleachers are empty. I guess with the softball team's loss last week, no one wants a second helping of it.
The four of us sit in the middle of the bleachers. Already, the Seal Bay team is on the field and our first batter is up. I recognize the signature number 6 immediately.
I can also recognize the pitcher's blonde hair poking out beneath his signature Seal Bay hat.
As the girls around me start heckling the pitcher, Brandon shifts uncomfortably in the batter's box. The pitch is thrown on the inside of the plate, but instead of backing away, Brandon swings the bat to protect his body from getting hit.
