Chapter 10

"Mistshine!"
"Mistshine! Are you there?"
"If I get my claws on Blizzard, I'll spread him!" Mistshine raised her head, recognising the voices of Quailflight, Pepperleaf and Stormbreeze she pushed herself upwards and called out "I'm over here!" Stormbreeze's figure appeared from the shadows, running towards her.
"She's here!" Stormbreeze yowled she slowed as she approached Mistshine and pushed her gently to her paws.
"We were so worried about you! Rainsplash came back to camp saying that you were a traitor and that he made a massive mistake trusting you! We didn't believe it though, and when you didn't come back to camp Rainsplash just yowled louder, we came to look for you, Blueshadow wanted to come too but Juniperstar told her to stay behind as well to look after the camp" Stormbreeze meowed and Mistshine gazed into her friend's blue eyes.
"I may as well be a traitor, Rainsplash won't accept what I have to say" Pepperleaf ran over.
"Then maybe he isn't the right cat for you" she meowed and Mistshine nodded slightly, her friends were right.

"I wondered when you'd need me again" Mistshine looked up at the black figure that stood before her.
"Why did I have to lose my mate?"
"I'm sorry Mistshine, it was meant to be"
"I will never believe I had to lose my mate!"
"I know, Blizzard is a cruel cat, he is going to make you pay the ultimate price, because you refused him"
"I wish he'd understand clan loyalty"
"He never will, it's up to you to be loyal enough for the both of you" Nightstar meowed firmly.
"Well, well Nightstar, who is your companion? Don't tell me you're trying to mentor a cat when my own apprentice has destroyed her life" the voice dripped with malice and it turned Mistshine's blood to ice she whipped around and staring at her with a cold green gaze was a cat she'd never forget, the cat who was the exact image of a cat who Mistshine respected and loved "Soarstar!" She hissed. The blue-grey she cat looked at the two cats contemptuously
"My apprentice will destroy you both!" She yowled and Mistshine forced herself to not crouch to the ground in terror
"Blizzard is your apprentice? You're teaching him to destroy the clans?" Mistshine squeaked.
"You're a fool if you ever doubted that I was finished" Soarstar meowed her gaze glittering with satisfaction
"How did you break through the border Soarstar? This is StarClan territory!"  Nightstar hissed
"For someone who doesn't consider death a boundary, there are no borders"
"Get out of here Soarstar!" Nightstar yowled, fury edging her voice and she stood taller, and Mistshine remembered why she'd been such a respected leader when she'd been alive Soarstar glared at them before turning and stalking into the bushes and Nightstar leapt off her rock "wake up Mistshine! Juniperstar needs to know about this!"

"Woah! Mistshine! Where are you off to in such a hurry?" Brackenfrost called as she dashed past him towards the leaders den.
"Juniperstar?"
"Come in!" Mistshine pushed her way into the den and found Blueshadow sitting beside Juniperstar. Mistshine launched into a recount of her dream. Both Blueshadow and Juniperstar looked horrified and Blueshadow padded over and licked the top of her head.
"What are we going to do?" She asked turned to Juniperstar
"I'll call a meeting" came the reply.

"Mistshine are you ok? Brackenfrost said he saw you run into the leaders den like a horde of badgers were a mouse length from your tail" Stormbreeze meowed padding over and Mistshine nodded slightly.
"Yes I'm fine" Juniperstar had just called her summons and Mistshine noticed Rainsplash standing beside Eagletalon murmuring to him Mistshine tried to catch his gaze and Rainsplash looked away, his eyes cold and Eagletalon threw her a sympathetic look before turning to his brother Stormbreeze pressed her pelt against her "it'll be ok" she meowed and Mistshine only sighed.
"Some days it feels like it won't be" Juniperstar had called a meeting just before sunhigh, the sun shone down, warming Mistshine's fur but her blood still felt as cold as ice now Juniperstar was announcing her powers to the clan and Mistshine felt more guilty than anything. The clan turned to look at her and they all seemed to accept what Juniperstar told her, except for one "a likely story!" Rainsplash yowled.
"It's true!" Mistshine yowled and Rainsplash glared at her.
"You still want me as a mate! How many cats do you have to be with?" He yowled
"It was a setup!" Mistshine yowled and Rainsplash glared at her, then took off across the clearing towards her, Mistshine dodged too late as he sunk his teeth into her leg and Mistshine yowled in pain and the clan gazed at them, Stormbreeze's gaze was filled with horror Mistshine stumbled backwards and felt her hind leg snag under a root and felt fiery pain flood through her as the bone snapped Stormbreeze suddenly jumped to her paw's and dragged Rainsplash off Mistshine. Mintbreeze was anxiously staring down at her and Mistshine felt her head pounding. She blinked away the pain and glimpsed Stormbreeze glaring at Rainsplash "you aren't my brother! Stay away from my friend! I won't let you harm another clanmate! Ever!" Mistshine finally faded into darkness, I'm sorry Nightstar, I failed you
