Mistshine felt numb and rooted to the ground Blizzardpaw was the cat she'd loved and then he'd turned on his clan Rainsplash padded over and sat beside her "I'm so sorry Mistshine" he murmured Mistshine sighed and blinked at him "I don't want to be used I want to be respected for my own strengths" Rainsplash pressed his nose to her pelt and murmured "I'll never let any cat believe that, you're way to smart for that to happen anyway" Mistshine sighed why was it so easy with Rainsplash? Why didn't I love him instead? It would have been so much easier...

Mistshine slept curled up with Rainsplash she was still deeply hurt from Blizzard's betrayal but she'd pushed her hurt aside I'm lucky to have Rainsplash she reflected remembering half a moon ago when Blizzard had walked out of camp patrols hadn't reported anything but Mistshine knew he had a plan for her she'd visited Nightstar and been told to trust her instincts my instincts never prepared me for this! She thought sunlight streamed into the den and Rainsplash stretched "good morning" he purred Mistshine purred
"Good morning" she and Rainsplash left the den and saw Dawngaze chasing her kits around the clearing and Mistshine exchanged an amused glance with Rainsplash "won't you be glad when they become apprentices later today?" Mistshine teased an Dawngaze purred "good morning Mistshine, and yes, I will be!" Mistshine left Dawngaze to continue trying to round up her kits Juniperstar performed all ceremonies at sunhigh now Pepperpaw padded into camp, her jaws full of herbs "good morning Pepperpaw" Rainsplash called Pepperpaw waved her tail in response before she disappeared into Mintbreeze's den "Mintbreeze should take on an apprentice soon" Mistshine commented and Rainsplash nodded and looked thoughtful "maybe one of Blueshadow's kits, Nightkit spends a lit of time helping Mintbreeze" Mistshine nodded agreement Brackenfrost and Minnowtail sat together talking quietly, their purrs reached the other side of camp they had announced a few days earlier that they were mates but they didn't know if they would have kits Mistshine liked the idea of Blueshadow and Dappleflower being older sisters but it wasn't her decision "Mistshine! Rainsplash! Brightsmoke! Skygaze! Can I talk to you in my den please?" Juniperstar called Mistshine jumped to her paws and bounded over with Rainsplash at her heels she and Rainsplash padded into the den and settled beside Brightsmoke as she appeared in the den with a respectful nod to Juniperstar "I'd like you to mentor one of Dawngaze's kits Brightsmoke, you will mentor Duskkit, Rainsplash, you will mentor Finchkit. Mistshine, you will be Lynxkit's mentor and Skygaze you will mentor Cinderkit" Mistshine purred I'm going to be a mentor! I'm going to train an apprentice! Rainsplash's eyes shone with excitement "thank you Juniperstar!" He purred Juniperstar nodded then the four future mentors padded over to the fresh kill pile as the hunting patrols returned Quailflight glanced questioningly at her "what are you so happy about?" She asked Mistshine purred "I'm going to mentor Lynxkit" Quailflight purred
"That's great! You'll make an excellent mentor!" Then she sighed "I wish I was a mentor" Mistshine nudged her shoulder "Maybe you'll mentor one of Blueshadow's kits?" Quailflight nodded and seemed to brighten Juniperstar slid out of her den and leapt onto Shadetree and called her usual summons and Mistshine sprinted over to sit beside Rainsplash who nodded to her, shifting on his paws his eyes full of barely suppressed excitement Lightningflare, Rainfall and Gustbird appeared from their den Shadedrift and Blueshadow strolled across the clearing to sit together close to the base of the Shadetree while Creekkit and Nightkit sat and watched, at five moons old they could easily be imagining their own apprentice ceremony which was very close now as she watched Pepperpaw shot out of the apprentice's den the scent off clean moss drifting from her pelt and she sat on Mistshine's other side "I've prepared the new apprentice's nests" she meowed, her blue eyes shone with excitement "they'll thank you for it, they'll be tired after their tour of the territory" Mistshine meowed she glanced eagerly at Juniperstar and fell silent as she raised her tail in a signal around her other warriors sat and looked up "today I make four new apprentices and one new warrior" Pepperpaw gasped in astonishment "come forward Pepperpaw" Juniperstar meowed and repeated the words that Nightstar had said on the day she'd become a warrior "I do" Pepperpaw replied solemnly
"Pepperpaw from this moment on you shall be known as Pepperleaf, StarClan honours you dedication and loyalty" Pepperleaf purred as she padded forward then Juniperstar meowed "Cinderkit, Duskkit, Finchkit and Lynxkit come forward" the kits sprang from Dawngaze and Smokeflight's side and ran into the clearing "Cinderkit, from this moment on you shall be known as Cinderpaw, Skygaze you will be Cinderpaw's mentor" Skygaze padded over to his new apprentice "Duskkit you will now be known as Duskpaw, Brightsmoke you will be Duskpaw's mentor" Brightsmoke padded over to her new apprentice "Lynxkit you will now be known as Lynxpaw, Mistshine you will be Lynxpaw's mentor" Mistshine padded towards her apprentice who gazed at her and Mistshine nodded reassuringly at him and he blinked in response Juniperstar announced Finchpaw's apprenticeship to Rainsplash and the two new mentors nodded to each other I'm a mentor!
