3. School and secrets

<the next day>

Y/N's POV

It was Monday. Everybody's least favourite day of the week. I look at my clock, it read 6.10am, I better get up...

I start to play <F/S> on my Bluetooth speaker and dance around my room while combing my hair. After my hair is combed and tied into a low ponytail, I get my uniform and go to the bathroom to wash up and change.

After emerging from the bathroom, I quickly run down the stairs and hop into my breakfast chair, "Good morning, darling" greets my mother, "morning" I reply sleepily. "Morning, sister" I hear a voice behind me say. I turn around and see Lizzie smiling at me.

"Hi, big sis, let me eat quickly, then we'll go to school" I say to Lizzie and quickly shovel my food into my mouth, grab my bag, wave to my mother and quickly skip out of the front door.

As Lizzie locks the front door, I turn to my right and skip towards Oli's house. I knock on the door and wait for somebody to answer.

As I wait, I watch Lizzie as she walks over to our other neighbour's house, Joel, and knock on his door. Lizzie is 14, Joel is 13, both me and Oli are 11...almost 12!!

Oli answers the door, just like every other day, "Hey, Y/N!!" He exclaims. I hug him in greeting and we start to go to school, with Lizzie and Joel behind us.

We finally arrive at the gate of our school and enter the classroom, laughing and chatting. I see my friends, Lauren, Joey, Yammy and Tiffany at their seats chatting away.

"Hey guys!" I say to them, plopping my bag into my seat and going over to them to chat. "Hey, Y/N" they all said together, waving. "So, girl! How was your weekend??" Asked Joey, enthusiastically (as usual).

I started to tell them about my weekend and listened to them tell me about their weekends. I watch as Oli goes over to Callum and Scott to talk to them.

The whole class is chatting for a good five minutes until somebody on guard at the door screams, "The teacher's coming!!!" There is a scramble as everybody runs to their desks, jumping over school bags and jumping into their chairs.

Just then, my friends metal water bottle drops which creates a loud "KRANG" as it hits the floor. At the same time, the teacher walks into the classroom and everybody bursts into laughter.

"You guys really need to work on your stealth" the teacher, Mrs Lim, laughed.

"RIIIIIIIING" the school bell finally rings, signalling the start of recess! Everyone rushes from their seats to be the first one out the door.  I finally make it out of the classroom and wait for Oli, Lauren, Tiffany, Yammy, Joey, Callum and Scott to come out of the class.

I wait for a long while and finally they come out of class. "Come on guys! Let's gooo!!" I scream at them and start racing done the stairs, everybody runs after me and we all eventually slide down the railing and end up on the first floor in the canteen.

I put my water bottle on the table to show other's it was OURS and they were not welcome at our table (I'm a good person... right??) As all my other friends ran to the queues to queue up, I stayed at the table, sat down and stared into space.

Oli usually packs food so he sat down next to me and asked, "Why aren't you eating?" I say the same thing I say all the time, "Not hungry". "You have not been hungry for the past three weeks! You're not starving yourself, I hope" Oli says. He looked right through me, he knows my secret.

"No! No! If I starved myself, I would have not eaten breakfast!" I say, playing it cool. "What did you have for breakfast?" Oli asked, concern written all over his cute face. "Half a waffle" I say.

"You need to eat! Come on, please?" Oli pleads. Just then, all our friends come back with their food that they had bought. "Truth or dare!!!" Squeals Yammy, everybody agrees and we immediately start the game.

At one point of the game, I get up and go to the bookstore to buy a notebook...

Every time Oli tries to talk to me about me eating food and stuff like that, I immediately say something loudly to drown him out.

"Riiiiing" the school bell rings, signalling the end of recess. We all head up the stairs back to our classroom to resume lessons. I avoid Oli's gaze all the way up the stairs.

It was finally the end of school! My friends were complaining about our last period teacher while I walked next to them in silence, thinking. Thinking about what I would say to Oli if he asks me about me eating, I know! I'll just have to avoid him!

Oli's POV

"Mrs Yang is sooo mean! She made me stand up for ten minutes just because I was talking!" Tiffany complained, "because you were talking for ten minutes!" I replied, laughing.

"I...er...gotta go toilet guys! See you tomorrow!" Y/N suddenly says and breaks away from our group. "Bye!" Everybody says to her. When Y/N is out of earshot, I tell them I forgot that I had to go to the general office to collect some work and rush off after her.

She goes in the direction of the toilet and I follow a few meters away from her. Then, when she finally reaches the entrance of the toilets, she changes direction and walks to the library.

I knew it, she just wants to avoid me.

When she reaches library, she puts her bag down, takes out a pen and a notebook and goes into the library, closing the door behind her.

I put my bag down and walk into the library silently. I grab a book and sit on one of the chairs and I watch Y/N as she goes to one of the tables with four chairs around it and sits down.

She takes out her notebook and starts writing on it, I never realised how cute she looked when she was so focused.

I shake my head, no, Y/N is only a friend, my best friend, my closest best friend... nothing... more...? Whatever.

I walk over to her silently but she does not realise I am there, I step behind her and gasp I shock when I realise what she was writing.

The week before last, I skipped recess and lunch, for breakfast I would eat half or less and then not eat break, happy with myself

Last week, I skipped recess and lunch again. Ugh, had a big lunch on Saturday and Sunday so I ate half a piece of a small piece of pizza for dinner. Not that happy with myself

Monday: breakfast was half a waffle, recess was nothing, lunch was nothing also... Oli is becoming suspicious

At this point, Y/N had turned around after hearing me gasp. The second she sees me, she slams the notebook shut earning her a "shhh" from the librarian.

Y/N's POV

How. Why. What.
HOW. WHY. WHAT.
HOW did Oli find me??!!
WHY would he do this to me??!!
WHAT. JUST. WHAT.

I give the librarian an apologetic look, grab Oli by his arm and drag him out of the library.

"OLI!! HOW COULD YOU?!?! WHY!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME???!!!" I scream at him, fuming mad. "You have been skipping meals on purpose?!!" Oli shouts at me.

It's the first time Oli had shouted at me. In my life. Sure he's shouted at me when trying to make me hear him from far away

At the sound of his shout, tears blur my vision and I dump my notebook and pen into my bag, grab my bag and storm off.

I hear him running after me but I don't stop.
