CHAPTER 2

The hours flew by quickly. I never seem to notice how fast time passes when I'm busy, which always happens at school. I tend to volunteer with my friend Allie at the school's library since we're both book lovers. Today wasn't such a busy day since it was the last day of school, but we had to take care of a few last things there and then go to our classes and say goodbye to our classmates. Thankfully, we dealt with everything rather quickly and we were now free to go. Yay!

"I can't believe school's finally over." She was so happy I could see her eyes beaming. She was more than excited because this summer she was going to California to see her dad who was working there.

"You're finally going to see your dad! Six months is a long time! I bet you've missed him!" I was really happy for her... She was one of the persons that were always next to me...

"I know right?!" I can't wait to get there! We're leaving tomorrow morning! I bet I won't sleep all night!" she chuckled.

"Plus I will get a nice taaan!" she reminded me. Tan definitely looks good on Allie. It will contrast her natural blond hair and her brown eyes. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to call my best friend beautiful inside and out. She has good looks and a heart that makes you melt.

"Have fun! And make sure you get me a gift!" I winked and chuckled. I wasn't expecting a gift whatsoever. I was never one to ask for gifts and Allie knew it.

"I should probably go say goodbye to Nate though." She frowned a bit. Nate was one of Steve's best friends. Sarah and he have gone out a few times the past two weeks. He finally got the nerve to ask her out. Allie was thrilled. She had a crush on him for quite a while but she thought that they were never going to be anything more than just friends. I always doubted that. Anyone could see Nate was crazy about her.

"I know. Don't be scared though. Everything is going to be alright." I smiled at her. Suddenly her eyes widened.

"I-It's him." She stuttered. Her cheeks grew hotter and her hand took mine into a tight grip.

"I know. Go!" I nudged her on the side and she waved at him and called him loudly but her voice was hardly audible. The hallways were always noisy at our school. It was almost impossible to get the attention of anyone. Luckily, he must have heard her calling him and he turned around.

But it seemed like the Universe wasn't planning to let those two get together any time soon. The moment Nate turned around to search for the person that was calling him, a student passed right next to Allie running and shoving her to me by accident. As a result, Allie stumbled on her feet and fell flat on the floor- talk about embarrassment. In the meantime, Nate hadn't seen anyone and walked off exiting the school building looking slightly disappointed not paying attention to the scene that revolved just a few feet behind him.

I helped Allie get back on her feet and asked her if she was okay. She answered with a nod. I decided to drop the subject because she was going to be even more frustrated if I made a big deal out of it. So we made our way out trying not to get smashed by the students passing by. I wondered where Steve was. I hadn't seen him a lot and we were going to hang out after school so I was trying to find him when suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I screamed and jumped back horrified to see Steve laughing right next to me.

"You should have seen your face!" he continued laughing clutching his stomach.

"Too bad I didn't have a mirror." I glared at him. He does things like that all the time! He never lets me take a breath! I mean come on! I'm a girl, I get scared easily! I can't even watch a thriller!
