I finally finish packing my stuff. Tomorrow, my older brother, Caleb, my twin sister, Summer, and I will be moving to Joplin in Missouri to live with dad. My parents got a divorce six years ago, when I was eight. I'm fourteen now. My dad moved to Joplin and I haven't seen him since. Last year, my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. It killed her. It's been a month now and we've been living with our aunt until we had enough money to travel from LA to Missouri. I quickly change into an oversized t-shirt, brush my teeth and crawl into bed. I immediately fall asleep.
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. My names Charlie Stevens. I have black hair that goes down to my waist and grey eyes with a black rim around them. I have pale skin. My sister looks nothing like me. She has long blonde hair, bright green eyes and has tanned skin. We're opposites, but we're defiantly twins.
I wake up at five in the morning since our plane leaves at eight. I change into black leggings and a tie-dye tank top. I put on my white vans and apply my usual make up. A little bit of foundation, eyeliner and mascara. I walk down stairs and grab some breakfast and sit down beside Summer. It's ten minutes to six now and we have to leave at six. Where's Caleb?
As if on cue, he walks in and slumps down in a chair. He reaches across the table to steal some of Summers toast but she slaps his hand away. Summer and Caleb look more alike than me and Summer. Apart from his hair, which is dark brown, like mine, he looks exactly like her.
"Get your own! This is mine!" she snaps.
Well, someone's not in a good mood anyway.
"Sorry, I didn't realize that burnt bread was so important to you," he replies.
"Caleb, have some of mine, since we have to leave in five minutes," I say to him as he takes a slice of toast off my plate. He gives me a grateful smile. Summer rolls her eyes. She was never a morning person.
Her phone, which is on the table beside her, lights up, signalling a notification. I glance at it and snort. A fan account for Grant Landis followed her on twitter. Gosh, I hate that boy. He annoys me so much and I don't even know him.
I run upstairs to grab my bags and my carry-on. Then I run down and outside to the car.
"Shotgun!" I shout and hop in the car. The others get in soon after and Aunt Clara drives us to the airport. On the way, she goes over the rules about behaving on the plane. No fighting, no messing and blah blah blah.
We arrive at the airport almost an hour later and have to wait for another hour to get on the plane. I get a window seat beside Summer. Great. She'll be either complaining or asleep the whole journey. The plane takes off and soon we're up in the sky, flying over LA.
LA. My home. My childhood. Where my friends turned on me. Where my parents got a divorce. Where my mom died. I turn away from my window in disgust. I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy to be leaving.

We arrive at Missouri a few hours later. I didn't sleep at all. I shake Summer awake and poke Caleb in the cheek. The both look at me sleepily.
"We're here. Come on," I tell them.
They get up and follow me off the plane. We walk inside, find our luggage and walk to the front door, where we arranged to meet dad.
Caleb spots him first. His eyes turn hard as he looks at him. I stare at him with a numb feeling in my stomach. We never forgave for not keeping in touch. Summer scowls in his direction, but a smile plays on her lips. Daddy's girl.
"No, I still hate him. I'm just happy to be in Missouri," Summers says as she turns to face me.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"You said 'daddy's girl'."
I said that out loud? Oops.
We make our way over to him and Caleb asks where he parked his car. We walk towards the car without acknowledging my dad further. I look back over at my dad and he looks disappointed.
Well, it's his own fault.
We arrive at the house after a long car journey. We eventually talked to him. He now works in law enforcement's and is never home. He is married to a woman named Mandy and he has a huge house (but I think the last one is an overstatement).
Woah. He was actually telling the truth about the house! It's twice the size of my old house!
Maybe living here won't be so bad.
I just have to make a few friends and everything will be okay...

Summer and I are walking down a street, exploring the town. We already found an ice-cream shop, a taco-bell and a shopping centre. I couldn't care less about the shopping centre though - it's all about the food!!!
Yeah, I'm weird.
We come to a park and find a bench to sit down.
"Sum, this morning at the airport, I called you 'Daddy's girl' and you said you were still mad at him, yet you were happy to be here. Why?"
I'm just curious to know. I'm happy here too, it's just- Summer seems more than happy.
"Okay....sooooo you know the way I'm obsessed with Grant Landis and I think I may be in love with him?" She says, not giving me time to reply. "Well....he lives right here....in Joplin! I think it's destiny!"
Oh.
How do I reply to that? I can barely say his name without puking.
"That's nice..."
Nailed that reply, didn't you, Jamie?
"Yeah, it is," she says, dreamily.
Ugh! I hate when she does that.
"Well, we should move on, it's getting late and I want to explore so more," I say, clapping my hands together once before standing up.
"Oh, yeah."
We walk through the park until I realise that we're lost. Dang this park is big!
"Sum, I think we're lost. I'm gonna go ask someone over there where the nearest exit is, k?" She's not even listening. I roll my eyes.
I see two boys sitting on a bench with their backs facing me. I walk up behind them and tap the slightly smaller boy on the shoulder. He doesn't reply. Ugh, people these days.... I decide to speak up even though he's ignoring me.
"Umm, hi, excuse me, but my sister and I are new to this town and we came to the park and now we're lost. I was wondering if you knew where the nearest exit is?" I say. I sound so polite. It's scary.
Then the boy turns around. My heart drops in my stomach and I'm pretty sure I'm even paler than usual.
It's him. The boy I despise. The boy whose voice is the most annoying thing ever. The boy whose staring at me with those beautiful blue eyes that make my heart fly up from my stomach, back to its normal place and do somersaults.
It's Grant Landis.
