"I'm sorry, come again?" I ask, not really sure if I heard her right.

"It is my husband's doing."

I stare at her, mouth open wide.

"WHAT?" I scream. Did she just say what I think she did?

"Yes, Sydney you heard me right. It is all his doing. That is why I am here in the first place. I'm here to tell you everything."

"Uh-huh. I'm listening," I say warily.

"Do you know my story, Sydney?" she asks after a short pause, solemnly.

I shake my head. I don't read, remember?

"I was a young maiden, so happy and carefree, until that brute of a man ruined my life," she says bitterly.

"Who, Hades?"

"Yes. You see, he fancied me. On one fine day, he came around and kidnapped me, taking me with him to his lair, the Underworld where he did terrible things to me. I...lost my virtue and purity because of him..." she trails off in a sob.

I did not expect that.

"Uh, he raped you?" I ask slowly to which she nods so vigrously, I fear her head might fall off.

I gasp.

"What happened then?"

"I was forced to marry him. My life is ruined. I am not as pure as the other maiden goddesses, now. I didn't want that to happen to you, Sydney," she says softly.

"Wait, what? Hades wants to rape me?" I ask, more confused than ever.

"He fancies you, yes. It is why he left the Underworld in the first place. He has been...er...observing you for a while now."

"You mean stalking," I say dryly.

"And he plans on making you his," she says, completely ignoring my remark.

"Why should I believe you? You let me almost get killed by a dog! And you slapped me, sent your freaky mother to threaten me. In fact, all evidence points to you, missy," I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I thought if I did all those antics, you might leave him and throw him out of your abode. But I believe, my calculations have been wrong for it turned out to be quite the opposite."

What rubbish. I don't believe a word of what she's saying.

She notices my reluctance to believe and says, " In a while, a few days later, he may come and ask you to stay here permanently, concocting a strange story. Don't fall for it, Sydney. It's all I can do. I can't come visit the Underworld for six months. You must find a way to--

"Sydney, wake up."

I'm nudged awake. I open my eyes and stare at the black ones belonging to Hades and smile a little. He leans back and returns the smile.

I sit up straight. "What's the problem?" I ask.

"Oh, nothing. I just wanted to make sure that you were well. What if something had happened to you while I was gone?"he asks softly.
