“It’s your father. He’s been hospitalized again.”
“What do you mean with that? He was just discharged last week!” Yoona argued as she shook her head in disbelief. She heard Taecyeon sighing through the phone.
“Why would I lie to you about this, Yoona-ah?” He reasoned with a very solemn tone of voice. Yoona rubbed her temples with her free hand as she tried to calm herself from all the emotions plus the hangover she was having at the same time.
“What is this about? I talked to him on the phone yesterday around noon and he sounded perfectly fine.” Yoona asked, slightly more collected, but still completely confused about the news. In that moment, Seohyun walked towards her with a questioning look on her features. She mouthed an ‘are you okay?’ as she reached for Yoona’s shoulder. The doe-eyed girl smiled lightly and nodded her head, gesturing Seohyun to go and meet her friends back at the living room. Seohyun nodded reluctantly before giving Yoona’s shoulder an encouraging squeeze, nodding her head and leaving her. Seohyun knew just perfectly that something was going on, but at the same time she didn’t want to ruin Tiffany’s and Yuri’s wedding announcement, and she knew Yoona wouldn’t want that either.
“This could be a little bit complicated than the last time, Yoona…” Taecyeon trailed off, making Yoona widen her eyes. A wave of preoccupation soon took over her body.
“What do you mean?” She breathed out, feeling tears burning the back of her eyes and subsequently making her headache turn ten times worse.
“The doctors are still running tests, so I can’t really tell you much. The doctor just said that his lungs seem worse than they were when he was hospitalized last week.” Taecyeon explained. Yoona sighed as she willed the tears to not fall. Crying wasn’t going to fix anything.
“Is he in pain?” Yoona asked, pushing the words past the lump in her throat.
“With the medication they’re giving him, he’s not in pain. You can’t talk to him, though, since he’s so short of breath the doctors have sedated him.” Yoona bit her bottom lip, slightly relieved about the answer Taecyeon was giving her.
“Alright… Tell him I’ll go there as soon as possible. I just… have to fix some things here first.” Yoona said, avoiding giving out any details about her future meeting with her mom. “Do you think I have time to do that?”
“Of course, Yoona! I’ll check on him until you get here…” Taecyeon assured. He knew just what Yoona needed to fix.
“Thank you, Taec. That means a lot to me…” Yoona whispered, smiling slightly.
“Don’t worry, Yoong. I got your back… And good luck.” He said quietly. Yoona nodded even if her friend couldn’t see it.
“Thank you for everything.” He hung up first. Yoona put her phone back in her pocket and analyzed the situation for a few seconds. What had gone wrong? She thought that when she had left Mr. Im, he was okay… Apparently, that wasn’t the case at all. It made her feel guilty; maybe she had missed some sign that he wasn’t as fine as he appeared to be.
“Yoongie?” Yoona was distracted from her self-torturing thoughts by Seohyun, who had come back towards her. This time her look wasn’t questioning, but plain worried. “What happened?”
