"Actually yes, there is." Birdie answers me.

"Oh," I say, surprised. "What can I do?"

"You see, we live in an orphanage. You can only stay there till you're 19. Carter's birthday is coming up. He's pretty much gonna get kicked out. He needs a place to stay. Would you know anywhere he can stay? He hasn't got any money." She explains.

"Oh...."

"It's alright. I'm sorry I-" She begins to turn away.

"—no. I don't know anywhere else Carter can stay, but he can temporarily live at my place." I say hesitantly. Her eyes show a little twinkle of hope. The ends of her mouth curve upwards. Into a small smile.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, I guess." I smile back. Her smile gets wider.

"I honestly thought you'd say no. He doesn't have a job or anything; I knew he'd be on the streets the minute he gets out of the Orphanage." She replies, her eyes getting glossy. I shrug, still slightly smiling.

"Wait what about you?" I ask. "If both of you are in the same class, won't you both have to leave the Orphanage?"

She laughs in return. "I didn't tell you? I thought you knew?"

"Knew what?" I say confused.

"I was pushed a few grades higher, but I'm 16 turning 17 soon."

"Oh." Is all that comes out of me. I've got more questions, but I decide not to ask.

"Do you think he'll agree though?" I break the small silence. She looks up from her lunch.

"I don't know, to be honest. He has to go somewhere though."

"He won't be happy about it." I chuckle.

"Why?" She laughs with me.

"He hates me," I say giggling. Birdie looks at me confused. "He told me to 'stay out of his way, or he'd step on my tutu.'" She pauses and stares at me for a second before bursting into laughter, earning weird looks from other students. I bite my lip to keep from laughing harder than ever too.

"Oh my god." She wipes her eyes. "He'll step on your tutu?" I nod. She bursts into laughter once again.

"Oh lord shut up," I say laughing. She suddenly gets quiet, looking behind me. There he is, Carter. He enters the cafeteria, a frown sewn to his face. Looking around, he makes his way over to an empty table, before sitting down.

Birdie looks at me, shrugging.

"He's sitting alone. Don't you wanna call him or something?" I ask. She shrugs again, before calling out to him.

"Carter!" She shouts. He turns around, searching for where the voice came from. His eyes land on us, and his frown gets bigger. Birdie smiles, motioning for him to come over. A simple roll of his eyes answers her.

"Well, I asked." She says laughing. I furrow my brows as I look at him. I give him a look that says 'that wasn't necessary you know.' He rolls his eyes again and turns back. Jerk.

"Don't you ever get mad at how he does that?" I ask.

"Does what?" Birdie asks, her mouth full.

"You know, always rolling his eyes and talking to you so disrespectfully?" I quickly explain.

"Eh... I'm used to it. I feel kinda bad for him too. As I said, he's witnessed disturbing things at a young age, and he'll probably never be the same. But who can blame him."

*The End of the Day*

I step out of the school grounds, breathing a sigh of relief. The entire week awaits Isabella. Turning around, I notice Birdie running up to me.

"Did you tell him?" I blurt out. She shakes her head.

"His birthday is next week. I've gotta tell him." She says.

"No duh." I laugh. "Tell him now.".

"I can't tell him at the Home, might as well." She shrugs and calls out to him. "Carter!" He slowly turns around and walks over to us. I take a step back. He's scary.

"What?" He hisses. Birdie rolls her eyes.

"I found a place for you to crash temporarily." She says, putting some emphasis on the word 'Temporarily'. "I already phoned the Orphanage and let them know." Carter looks at me, angry. I put my hands up in defense and step back to let the two talk. From the looks of it, he's not happy. At all.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" He yells, making me flinch. Birdie stands there, an annoyed look on her face.

"Well, where else are you supposed to go when they kick you out?" She yells back in his face.

"I can manage!" He shouts.

"No, you can't! Besides, I already let them know. You'll have to stay with her. And if you don't want to so bad, get yourself a job!" She screams. I just stand there wide-eyed, as Birdie storms off. Carter turns to me, shooting daggers from his eyes.

"I told you to stay the hell away from me." He towers over me.

"Yeah, and it's totally my fault you're the one getting kicked out of your orphanage cause' you're too old and have nowhere to stay." I sassily say, earning a bitter laugh from him. "Look. I'm just being a good friend to Birdie. I don't need you to stay with me. You don't want to? Okay, don't. As I said, I don't give a damn about you. Birdie almost cried because she freaking cares for you! You, being a terrible brother, obviously don't understand she's looking out for you. Where the hell do you think you're gonna go after they make you leave? Live on the streets?" He keeps quiet, waiting for me to continue. "That's what I thought." I finish, then turn and walk away, hoping I knocked some sense into his brain.
