Magic!

Firstly, you'll have to consider what your character is. The majority (I assume) will be mages. However, your character could be a vampire, a mortal who knows about magic or a zombie.

Sometimes a mage’s magic helps them in their field of work, so this could come into consideration.
For example, Skulduggery and Valkyrie have magic which can be used in combat, as they are detectives. A discipline such as knowing every language spoken by humankind, like Miss Nuncio, wouldn't be as useful if she were a detective.

In the Skulduggery universe there are two types of magic, which I'm sure you all know, being the knowledge skuttlebugs you are!

Elemental or adept.

This is the first choice. If your character is an elemental, think about which element they use the most. Think about how they use their magic in daily life.

If your character is an adept, then you'll have to narrow down on what they can do.
For example:
-Necromancy
-Symbol Magic
-Teleportation
-Wall-Walking
-Kineticist
-Tunneling
-Sensitives
-Energy Throwing
-And many, many more…

With many of these disciplines there are weaknesses too, which should be remembered so your character doesn't appear to be overpowered. For example, the man who was impervious to fire in the first book was killed in water.

If they are a necromancer, what object do they store their magic in? If they are a sensitive, do they have anything to help them in this like Cassandra Pharos?

Does your character own any magical artifacts or weapons?

Let's also consider who, what, where, how and why.

Who taught them magic?

What do they like about their magic? What do they dislike?

Where did they learn it? Necromancers may be from the temple, for example.

How long did it take them to master their magic? Or are they still learning?

Why did they choose that magic?

Make sure to comment!
