Chapter 1:
I honestly don't know how it all began. The love, the passion, the desire. I don't know where the burning will to be the best came from. All I know is that it has been there since I was a little girl. And I was going to do what it took to fulfill that little girls dream.
Basically, my name is Kamri Divinci. I came from a big Italian family with a big love for soccer. Of course being one of many grandchildren in my family, I was put into the game at a young age. I didn't dislike it. But it wasn't my sport. I played it for a while because, being 6 years old I didn't realize there was other sports out there than the one where kids kick around a ball and aim for a net. But I was so wrong.
AUGUST 2ND 2005: "Kamri, c'mon you can come watch my gymnastics class!" My best friend was pretty much my sister. We went everywhere together and did everything together. We played from the moment we woke up to the time we went to bed. And now Avie wanted me to come watch her do gymnastics at the little gym. I had never stepped foot into a gymnasium or even seen much gymnastics, ever. I had no idea what to expect.
THAT NIGHT: "Momma, I want to do this"
I had just been dropped off by my Mrs. Clorey at my house from Avies class. All I could think about when I got a glimpse at what gymnastics was like, is that I wanted to do that. And I wanted to be like the little girls running around in sparkely leotards with their hair in scrunchies. I wanted to flip. I wanted it.
"What sweetie? What about soccer? You were going to tryout for the Classics remember? Honey, you love soccer!"
"No momma, you love soccer"
My mother looked shocked. When a grand kid in our family decided soccer wasn't for them, they were pretty much a disgrace. Just kidding. But my mom was not happy. For the first time in my whole six years of living on this crazy, confusing world, I heard my momma cuss. And boy did I cry.
