I jumped down, off the beam and Avie got on. She did her jump and then she walked all the way down the beam backwards with her arms straight up. After that, she jumped off and ran over to me.
"Good job Aves!" I said cheerfully.
She looked stunned and then she laughed.
"Thank you! But oh my gosh Kam, I didn't know you could do that!"
"Welllllllll, me either!"
I said, looking slightly confused.
All of the girls in the class performed their little routine and then we all headed back to the little locker room to pass out papers.
"Okay class. Great job today! Everybody did amazing! Now about the papers I just passed out. These are announcements for team tryouts at the gym down the road from us."
"The big girl gym?" A tiny little red head said with a very high pitched question tone.
"Yes!" The coach giggled. "But the big girl gym is also "Pure Excellence Gymnastics" and they are hosting tryouts for the competitive team next Wednesday.
The coach finished handing them out and then said, "Okay class, see you next week! And thank you friends for joining us!"
I walked up to the teacher and handed her the paper.
"I am not allowed to do gymnastics. My momma won't allow me" I said this trying not to frown.
"Well, Kamri, let me tell you" the coach bent down to meet my eye level.
"You my friend, are an amazing little talent, who I'm not going to let go without at least a try on team. I see so much in you and I will fight for you and your talent. You can do big things little girl. I see your natural ability".
I instantly started smiling and I think I may have even let out a squeal.
"Thank you so much Coach... Coach...."
"Coach Karen" she finished for me.
"Thank you" I said giggling.
She grinned.
"Thank you so much Coach Karen"
"You're welcome sweetie!"
She took the paper I handed her and pulled out a pen. She scribbled something on the back and folded it up.
"Give this to your mom" she said.
She must've saw my confused expression so she bent down again to meet my eyes.
"You'll see sugar" she smiled, patted me on the back and gave me a wave.
"Bye Coach Karen!" I said as I walked away smiling.
She winked at me and turned to walk back into the gym.
I ran over to Avie, waiting for her mom at the front door of the gym.
"Avie, you'll never believe what just happened!"
I don't even know if she understood me. I was talking so quick.
