Chapter 9

          “I can’t fucking believe this…” Daniel groaned as he let his had fall into his hands. “I still can’t figure out why she’s alive.”

          “Well you did say about the Sam coming back and killing people since her body vanished, so it’s possible, not to mention this has happened at least five times before, well, that we know of at least.” Jacob tapped his index finger on the armrest of the chair as he thought for a moment. “When you were looking through those five books did you notice any mention of a baby in there?”

          He raised his head. “Yeah, I did.”

          “Anything on the Black Fairy or on the Black Wolf?”

          “I didn’t really read much of it, I only recalled the old journal when I saw the mention of a child, after I took the journal I hadn’t had the chance to look deeper into the books.”

          Jacob folded his hands into his lap and let out a deep sigh. “Here’s a theory, the Wolf’s Ward was taken in by force by the hands of our family, but before any of that happened she was with the “Fairy” and became pregnant by him.”

          Everyone in the room stiffened.

          “Pregnant, you mean to say that the Wolf’s Ward and this Fairy were…”

          “Lovers.” Dmitri cut in, his arms folded across his chest as he looked out the window not looking at any one in the room. “The Wolf’s Ward and the Black Fairy were lovers.”

          “He’s right, but then it is only my guess.”

          “So wait…” Nichole looked confused as she sat on the floor cross legged. “How does the Black Wolf fit into all of that? Was he like a pet or something?”

          Jacob raised his hand a bit to tell her to slow down. “I’m getting to that. The Fairy and Wolf’s Ward were lovers, but it may not have started out that way, they may have been comrades first seeing each other as family and friends. As for how the Wolf’s Ward came to live like that my only guess is that her birth parents abandoned her in the woods to be eaten by wolves.”

          Nick made a face. “That’s disgusting! Why the hell would they even…”

          “Her ears!” Jeannine butt in. “They must have thought her to be a changeling or as other people say it a “fairy baby” many parents did that when their own child had some type of deformity thinking that there child was that of the Devil or another type of demon.”

          Nick folded her arms across her chest and shook her head. “People back then were so dumb…”

          “As I was saying.” Jacob continued giving Nichole a meaningful look. “We can only assume that the Black Fairy took in the child as his and raised her as his own, like what the information said about him, that he was the guardian of the forest, who ruled deep within from the fog, I’ve also found out more about the Wolf, that it would come out when the sun was bright or the moon was full and teach the Wolf’s Ward to hunt.”

          “I still don’t get it.”

          Jacob sighed and shook his head at Nick. “I’ll put it another way, if the fog is thick and there are barley any humans around the Black Fairy will be there, but if there are human’s hunting on a part of the land and there is no fog, the Black Wolf will be there instead. Get what I’m saying now?”
