Minutes went by like hours as Keith sat in the last class of the year. History; a subject Keith despised. The only excitement came from knowing that summer was mere minutes away.  That's what kept Keith going as he listened to Mr. Holt drone on about how The Wall came about.
Keith had memorized the chapters on the subject in his textbook word for word as the syllabus for history was, throughout all grades, about The Wall and the virus, Periculosum Natura.
The Wall divided The Western Front from The Feral Zone, where all people infected with Periculosum Natura; a virus that turned people into bloodthirsty animals, were left to die.
The virus had been around for as long as Keith had been alive. He'd grown up in a world where hygiene and cleanliness had overruled childhood fun.
His older brother, Shiro, had always made sure to tell him bedtime stories about a faraway world where carrying hand sanitizer with you at all times wasn't a law. However as Keith grew up, the tale telling became less frequent as Shiro got more caught up with his career. He was an art dealer who often spent days on end at art exhibitions, meaning less time with Keith. Keith didn't mind as long as Shiro was happy doing what he loved. On the other hand, it didn't take away from the fact that Keith did miss him when he was gone.

Drrrrriiiiiinnngg

Went the final bell of the school year, some of Keith's classmates whooped while others opted to run out of the classroom without a second glance. Keith smiled as he realized he wouldn't have to get up at an ungodly hour of the morning the next day. Lifting himself out of his seat and slinging his bag over his shoulders, he set out finding a way out of the school without getting crushed by the swarm of students in the halls.

Once he had gotten home and into some sweats, Keith finally was able to relax. Having the house to himself for days at a time would've meant endless parties for other teenagers in his school but since Keith had no friends, it meant being able to watch endless amounts of television without being forced to go outside.
Just as he settled himself into a comfortable position on the couch, the doorbell rang. He groaned, not wanting to leave his seat but knowing he'd have to eventually. The doorbell rang again and with that Keith heaved himself off of the couch and to the door.
He was surprised to see a smart looking woman in a tailored pantsuit. She took a badge out of her suit pocket, making sure Keith saw it and said "My name is Paloma Girvin, I'm a detective on a case involving your brother and his profession."
Keith was taken aback, why would this woman be interested in Shiro's work. "Uh... Okay."

The sharp featured woman gestured to a car behind her and continued "You're going to have to come with me for questioning."
Keith was skeptical about the situation but he knew better than to disobey someone working high up in the government. So he nodded his head and trailed behind the detective towards the car.
Even as the pair walked into a prestigious looking building made of marble, he still wasn't sure if he made the right decision. But he went along with it even when Paloma walked past vacant questioning rooms. And, boy, was that the biggest mistake of his life.

Hi, so this is a new story of mine. I'm going to try and update another chapter today. If not today then definitely tomorrow. I know I haven't updated my other story Cleanse in ages but I'm working on the next chapter as we speak. I'll hopefully have it out by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience.
Anyways comment and vote!
I'd love to hear your feedback
