Ryuku’s POV
Another day…
That’s what I was thinking as I got up for yet another day at school. The only difference is that today was the schoolwide project… whoop de fucking doo. I was sooooo excited. My brain was just spitting out waves of sarcasm, something tells me my classmates and partner will have pleeeenty of fun today…

And by fun I mean complete hell.

I wasn’t expecting to see my bro today either and yeah, I was right. He already left as per usual. I just packed up all the stuff I needed and headed out. I took my sweet time, I didn’t really care. I just stayed at the same pace the whole way there. Though, since I was a fast walker and I actually managed to get to class on time… by like… a millisecond. The teacher gave me a look but since I wasn’t late there was nothing she could do. That made me grin to myself in satisfaction. She talked about random shit for a bit before Umeji came in and we moved to a class downstairs where we’d be paired with someone…

Great…

I never really liked group projects, I work best alone and only alone. Whatever, I already knew I wouldn’t have any choice in the matter. I just leaned against the wall with my hands buried in my sweater pockets. Oh yeah, I’d managed to avoid getting a uniform so go me. I kept my eyes slightly open so I could see the people in the class, it was one of the year 2 classes. To others I probably looked like the biggest asshole right now but whatever.

“Ryuku you’re paired with Hayanari”

I followed the teachers finger to a blonde haired guy in the back. I went and sat down next to him.

“You must be in the same group as Umeji”

He turned to look at me.

“Yeah, and?”

“Just confirming where to place you in my memory”

He stared blankly at me for a minute before shrugging. The teacher started explaining the project but I already knew what I was doing so I poked Hayanari to grab his attention.

“So, presuming you won’t do much, I’m doing the whole thing to keep things consistent k?”

His eyes widened in shock.

“But aren’t we supposed to do our own pa-”

“Write something down”

“Huh why?”

“Just do it”

“O-okay”

He wrote down a bit. I studied his style for a minute before taking the piece of paper and copying it and showing it to him.

Hayanari’s POV
So, I was paired with the new kid. Interesting. He picked up the piece of paper and showed me. My mouth gaped at what I saw. It was almost as if I had wrote down the same thing twice.

“With this, the second half of the project will belong completely to you, Hayanari Tsumeato”

I almost missed it but I caught it…

“How do you know my last na-”

I felt a finger on my mouth.

“Shhhhh that’s not important”

This guy… he was hiding something clearly. How did he know my last name? I guess an answer will come with time. I’m usually not patient but with this I’ll probably have to be. But still… to do the whole project…

“Are you sure about this?”

“About what? Doing the whole project myself? I have nothing better to do at home most of the time so it’ll at least keep me busy even if it’s boring as hell.”

I couldn’t help but stare at him. I was about to open my mouth when he gave an exasperated sigh and looked me deep in the eyes with his unmoving, unblinking stare… I couldn’t lie, it was kind of intimidating.

“Listen, it’s a win/win for you is it not? You get no homework and a good grade on the project. And yes, good, because I know what I’m doing. Whether you believe me or not doesn’t matter”

I just went silent. This guy was one odd duck that’s for sure.

Ryuku’s POV
As soon as the bell rang to signal class was over I bolted out of there before it became a tidal wave of bodies. There is no way I was going to deal with that crap. The rest of the day passed completely normally apart from all the project chit chat anyway. I was already done some of it. I alternated between my own and Hayanari's. Of course changing writing styles back and forth was sort of a struggle but I didn't mind. This was due by the end of the week but I planned to have it done by tomorrow.

If I did that, I wouldn't have to deal with it for the rest of the week. I could give what I did for Hayanari's side to him, hand it in at the end of the week, and this whole thing can just blow over...

Or could it? Maybe if I hadn't have said his and Umeji's last names, it would have.
