As I arrive at the line up to get into the black veil brides, I feel a buzz in my pocket. I fish my phone out and check my messages.
'Dad': GET BACK HOME
'Dad': WHERE ARE YOU
'Dad': I'M COMING LOOKING
Well it looks like I'm avoiding home for now... At least until the alcohol wears off.
I slip my phone back into my jeans as the line moves forward. I step up to the guard and hand him my VIP ticket and my backstage pass. He nods and lets me through into the venue.
I walk down a dimly lit hallway until I reach the front of the stage where all the VIPs stay during the concert. I walk around in that area until I'm literally touching the stage. I turn my back to the stage and lean against it, pulling out my phone and texting my best friend.
I have just finished typing the text when I feel a tap on my shoulder and a hand wave in front of my face. I look up and spot the very person
"Alexie! My Bestie!" screams my best friend Chantelle literally leaping onto me and clutching me in a big hug.
I wince massively then put on a fake smile, trying to pretend that I didn't just flinch in pain.
Chantelle notices my flinch and slowly gets down off of me and looks me in the eyes. I smile wider, trying to hide my pain from her so that she doesn't know.
"Alex, what's wrong?" she asks, crossing her arms and looking at me with that look she always has - the 'she's an injured puppy' look.
"No-Nothing is wrong, why do you think that something is wrong?" I ask, averting my eyes to the ground, my hair falling over my face and hiding my stinging eyes.
"Alex, something is wrong. I can tell." She shifts on her feet. "So tell me what's wrong and don't say its nothing," She sternly grabs my shoulder.
I nodded slowly in defeat.
"Follow me." I take her to the bathroom.
"Ale -"
I look around to make sure no one was around before pulling up my shirt and showing her all the self harm cuts that I did and all the bruises from where my Dad loses his temper.
She gasps lightly, tears starting to brim at her eyes and reaches out to touch them gently. I let her.
"Why?" she whispers softly, looking up at me and as she blinks, the tears falling down her heart-shaped face.
I let a few of my tears fall as I drop the hem of my shirt and say, "It doesn't matter... I don't matter."
She looks up and mumbles, "You matter to me so please try to not do this anymore."
I smile a weak but genuine smile for the first time in at least two years, my chest warming. "Ok. I'll try."
She smiles and pulls me in for a hug and we wrap our arms around each other.
I hear screaming and we rush out to see Andy Sixx and the rest of Black Veil Brides run out on stage to loud applause and screaming of fan girls.
Chantelle and I look at one another before breaking out into a grin and joining in with the crowd screaming and chanting 'Black Veil Brides!'
Half an hour into the concert, my phone starts buzzing like crazy. I pluck it out of my pocket and open it to find two messages from my father.
'Dad': I know where you are, you are at that Black Veil brides concert I told you not to go to.
'Dad': I am coming to get you and when we get home, I am going to teach you a lesson
I can feel my breathing get faster.
I look over to find Chantelle heavily head banging to the song that was playing at the moment.
I tap her on the shoulder and she turns to face me, her smile falling as soon as she see's my face. I motion for her to lean into me so I could tell her.
"I got to go but we'll talk later ok," I say, turning to go. She stops me by grabbing my wrist.
"Are you ok?" she asks, her icy blue eyes searching for something.
"Yeah, I'll be fine," I say, smiling brightly, maybe a little bit too brightly because she frowns. Nonetheless, she lets it go.
"Okay, get home safely," she says weakly, making me wish that she held onto me and kept me safe.
I make my way out of the venue and spot my father at the door leading out onto the pathway.
I turn back and I run. The bouncer stops him from coming near me. "Go backstage. Find Jim." He says.
