I wake up to a scream of pain coming from my brothers room.
I jump out of my bed and race towards my brothers room in a panic. I throw open his door and find my father standing at my brothers bedside. But that is not what made me scream.
Father was holding a knife to my brother's throat and my brother was bleeding from his stomach.
"Christian!!" I scream altering my father's attention to me.
"Alex!! Run!!! Now!!!" My twin brother shouts at me, urging me to run.
I refuse, shaking my head violently until I see father stand up and start towards me holding the knife high and poised to strike.
I scream and bolt down the hall away from my brother and my father.
I run into my mother's bedroom and hide inside her closet trying to keep my sobs quiet.
I peep through the keyhole to see if he followed me in.
"Oh Alex where are you my dear" my father calls out tauntingly walking into her bedroom.
I let out a quiet sob and his head snaps towards where I am hiding.
He approaches the closet slowly before yanking the closet door open.
He smiles before reeling back his hand and sending the blade flying into my hip.I bolt upright with a gasp. My hands fly down to my hip where the scar of that fateful night remained.
"Lexie you ok?" A tired voice mumbles from the bed on which my best friend lays.
"Chantelle! Oh my goodness gracious!! Thank god you are ok!" I exclaim with relief that she is finally awake.
"I'm ok?" She asks disbelieving, one eyebrow raised in amusement.
"Well you are awake and I thought that you were never going to wake up!" I exclaim, my eyes tearing up.
"Yah stop worrying now! It's all cool. I'm awake now aren't I!" She states boldly, her voice getting more strength in them with each syllable.
"Yea," I say meekly, a small smile spreading across my face.
We sit and smile at each other for a while, her smiling through the oxygen mask and me smiling through dried tears and smeared mascara."So how long have I been asleep for?" She asks after a while.
I jolt from my daydream and reply.
"Ah you have been asleep for about two days."
"And you have been waiting here the whole time?" She asks disbelieving, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.
"Yea," I reply sadly, tears starting to stream down my face.
"Hey what's wrong?" Chantelle asks worriedly, reaching out for a hug.
I return her hug gently and decide to tell her now what's going on.
"The adoption people came today and told me that once you woke up, I have to go!" I wail, tears streaming heavier down my face.
"Oh sweetie!" She coos, her own voice shaking.
Soon enough we are crying in each other's arms holding as tightly as we can.The door opens an hour later and all I remember from then on is me being pulled away from my best friend and put into the back of a black SUV and the doors being locked before getting driven away, a last wave from my best friend is all I see before we turn a corner and I can't see her anymore.
