Bittersweet Gift

Chapter 21

"Come on!Pick up your phone Mr Kace!" exclaimed Sophia while I was screaming with pain as i was hit by a powerful contraction.

"So..So....Sophia please find him. I cann't take it anymore."I tried to say with big fat tears falling from eyes and squeezed her hand harder.

I really cann't take the pain anymore. I never thought that labour pains were that intense.I feel like someone had broke all my bones in pieces.

He promised.He promised me that he would be here but he is nowhere to be found.Sophia tried and tried to reach him but in vain.

Maybe he have not change at all and is still the beast that he is.

Slowly with time I am seeing the faith and hope that I have in him diminishing like a vessel being emptied drop by drop. The echo resonating in my heart being squeezed.

Please God help me.I beg of you do not let my hope in Ezra go please. If....if you were to take me today, please keep my child safe with his dad and protect them. I thought while clutching my belly.

Suddenly there was a rumble and the noise of someone coming towards us which made my hope rise a sudden thinking that it was Ezra but Zach made his apparition. At this moment I was ready to accept my fate as my heart broke down beyond repair.

Sophia rushed to him and said.

"Zach please tell me you found him.I can not see Claire in agony like that anymore."

Zach remained silent and only took Sophia in his arms.

"I tried...everything that I could but I still did not find him. I'm really sorry." he replied and gave me a guilty look.

I was only hanging by a thin tread that was crumbling down.

 When the labour began, the pain was more intense than anything Claire had ever imagined. Nothing could be more brutal, not whips or chains. The room was only the bed and four walls, her helpers melting into the background as if they weren't even there.   

"Aaarrrr..."I screamed as the strongest contraction till now hit me..  

"Miss we could not wait anymore.We have immediately send you to the operation room."the doctor said and quickly the nurses pulled my bed down.

 I lay still as the medication was administered, waiting for the agony to subside.

The pain that once burned like fire had faded away to an icy numbness. Black filled the edges of my vision and the only thing I could hear was my own heartbeat. My breath came in ragged, shallow gasps. Seconds passed as I lay there, then, I heard voices.  

"Claire...Claire!!I am here.Am here."

He came!He came! Finally I can be at peace and I gave a small smile.

"Am really sorry for being late but i am here now.I won't let you down."i heard Mr Kace said in my drowsiness state.I felt him take my hand and kissed my forehead lightly.This was the last thing that a heard and felt before slipping in the abyss of darkness.

"Where the hell were you man?"Zach asked me angrily while was still in daze looking at the nurses closing the room where they had taken Claire to.

"Don't even ask."i exhaled loudly and as soon as i replied to him I received a punch.

"What was that!"I seethe at the source of the punch and Zach quickly took Sophia away from me shielding her from my wrath.

"Do you even know how much in pain Claire was. And this is all due to you. Claire had a fair share of pain in her life and you had to add on more and more. You are a cruel man Mr Ezra Kace. A very cruel man." Sophia ranted and then she got out from the hold of Zach and came towards me.

Oh shit! What is she going to do??

She took hold of my collars and menacingly whispered putting  emphasis on each word.

"Stop.... hurting..... Claire."

"Please. She deserved happiness in her life. "Then she said softly and began to cry.

I stood there frozen. Not knowing what to do after witnessing the breakdown of Sophia.

I don't know how long I was in this state when the dramatic opening of the operation room snapped me out of it.

I looked up and saw the doctor with a solemn look making my heart beat at one hundred miles per second.

"Mr Kace...........
