Liz entered the white simulation room, inhaling deeply. Her suit was like a second skin that moved perfectly with her every motion, laced with breathable, fireproof technology and colored gray. Her body sounded with a fast and drumlike heartbeat. Adrenaline pumped throughout her being and she opened her eyes. This was it. Elizabeth's final test. "Mother, I'm ready."
"Affirmative. Running program ZIGGY 2.0 and preparing for simulation leap. Are you sure you're ready for this?" Her tone was serious and motherly.
"Leap me." giving a reassuring nod.
The familiar whirring and spinning of the room caused a smile to appear, but was cut short when the system stopped.
Confused, Liz speaks up, "Mother?" She looks to the window where the controls are to find no one. She steps out of the chamber and looks around. Faint yelling sounds from the hall, causing curiosity to spark within her. She rounds the corner to find a dark haired, dark eyed boy holding a cigar and leaning against the wall, next to the sign that says "no smoking"and laughing at her red faced mother, lecturing him about the dangers of smoking. He suddenly looks over to liz and winks, causing her mother to become even more enraged. He opens his mouth with a sly smile, "Woah, babe, calm down. let me finish my cigar at least." his voice was slightly raspy, very likely from the smoking. He inhaled the fumes of his tobacco and blows it in a ring at Samantha's face, "I'm done." and crushing it under his boot. His head once again turns to Liz, "And come out from the corner. I bet your mother didn't tell you who your guide is."
Confidently walking towards the boy, a humorless laugh escapes her lips, "You? You don't even look the part. "
"Neither do you. A beautiful face like yours doesn't belong in a place as dull as this." he takes Liz's hand in front of her mother and kisses it causing liz's eyes to widen. " Jonathan Allen Callavicci at your service, sweetheart. US special ops. Age 20. And you are Elizabeth."
"Callavicci? As in-"
"Time for the test." Samantha says impatiently. She then slaps his hand off of Liz's. "I trust you're ready, Jonathon."
"It's my middle name. " he retorts in a bored tone.
Her mother instructs them once again, leaving the two and having Liz step into the chamber.
She inhales deeply and slowly opens her eyes. In this test, Liz must shout out the steps she was taught and wait for the guide to explain who she is and what she's doing here. Once she gets a step correct, a ding should sound.
"Assess. I am in what seems to be a grocery store in the year of 2011." Her statement is followed my many strange stares by strange people, and no 'ding'. She looks at her apparel, and sees she is nwearing athletic shorts, and some navy blue tee. Picking up a soup can to see her reflection, Liz sees her hair is dyed with purple dye at the ends and is black at the roots. "I appear to be a young woman. I would guess sixteen. " once again she looks in the cart to find diapers and infant formula. An emotion of compassion washes over her, "And I seem to be a 'teen mom' as they were called during this time." she gazes at all corners of the store, "where is my guide, mother? Where is Jonathon?"
"Who is Jonathon, babe?" a man says upon entering the poorly lit aisle. He viciously attacks her lips and smells of booze and marajuana, causing disgust to overtake her.
"Who are you? This training simulator must be broken. Mother! Get me out!"
"What? Are you calling your mom to rescue you again? I thought I told you not to. Damn it, Leah." he shoves her back in a fit of rage. "And where the hell's James?"
"Who's James?" she looks around.
"Our goddamn child, Leah. Whats the matter with you?"
"uh-" An infant's cries sound the aisle behind Liz, "Here, I think." Liz picks up the baby seat in attempt to hand the child over to the suspected father.
"You think I want to hold it? It's your kid. And don't look at me like that. You remember last time I got angry?" he shoves her back again, but only to be greeted with her fist. Gasps sound from around the store, blood trickles from the man's busted lip, and Liz speeds away with James in her arms.
