Lucus POV
It has been about 30 minutes since I accidentally started the storm. Yep, that was me, because I couldn't control my emotions properly. I am still in my basement, sitting on the old couch that has been here for quite a few years. It was always good enough for Addie and Haley to come over and hang out. But now, Haley is dead, the sad truth, and Addie might as well be since Haley had gone. As I sit here wondering what I should do with my life, my thoughts get interrupted by a knock at the door upstairs. Since I predict it is my parents forgetting their keys after a day of work, I trudge slowly up the stairs in my dark grey sweatpants and baggy Van Halen t-shirt. When I get to my door I see something that stops my heart almost completely. Addie.
"Oh, uh, hey." I speak after I open the door.
"Hi... can I come in?" she asks me shivering from what I infer to be the storm with freezing rain.
"Oh, yes of course. Sorry, excuse my manners.. and the mess." I say, mumbling the last part quietly.
"It's fine, so do you maybe have some time to talk about something?" she asks me, with the expression that she knows I could never say no to.
"Yea, I guess." I say awkwardly while shifting in my seat.
"So.. I don't really know where to start with this. But I'm just gonna say that I am sorry." she says, making it seem like it isn't a big deal after what she did.
"Oh, you're sorry. Now you're sorry? After almost 6 months of ignoring me to mourn for our friend? You do realize that she was my friend too, right? We met her together. You left me, I was there for you and you turned away from me. You know what, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I must have done something wrong to make you want to leave." I said back to her.
"I didn't mean to block you out, okay? I apologized and I can't go back in time, but I have to tell you something important." she said, trying to change the subject now?
"Are you seriously trying to change this topic right now?" I ask.
"No, I need you to listen to m-" she says.
"No. You know what, no! Stop trying to use me as a pawn in your little game. I always try to be the best I can for you and you don't care, and I ju-" I say, but she interrupts me.
"SHUT UP! Just stop, okay? I seriously need to say something. I saw her. Today, I was at her grave, she was there too, as a spirit though. I know it was her, and I got to talk to her. I just know it was real." she said, sounding like she was convincing herself more than she was trying to convince me. After a minute of me staring at her I finally spoke.
"You have to be kidding me right? Is this some kind of practical joke, because if it is, you got me! Nice one Addie. Now if you excuse me-" I respond, walking away.
"Wait Lucus. Please.. hear me out. She told me. She told me that I have this special power, a spirit walker. Like you have your elements and weather powers. You have got to believe me. She even asked about you! C'mon, why would I lie about this to you, especially you?" she asks me, with a pleading look in her eyes.
"I don't know, it is a little hard to believe though. What do you know about it?" I ask her, maybe she is telling the truth. Not that weird compared to what I have been through.
"Not much, she told me I need to have some type of connection to that person. I couldn't believe my eyes, so I closed them for a brief second, and then she was gone. I ran here as fast as I could." she explains to me.
"Well here hang on," I tell her and get up to get her a blanket and a sweatshirt of mine.
“Thanks." she says when I hand them to her. She puts the sweatshirt on and snuggles into the blanket she used to always use whenever she came over.
"No problem. We should do some research on this though. When are you free?" I ask her.
"Whenever is good with you. How about Friday after school?" She asks. Today is Monday. I wonder why she pushed it out so far, but I don't ask.
"Yea, sure. I can pick you up outside the gym and we can go to the library. Alright?" I ask her.
"Sounds good with me. So um.. do you want to maybe watch a movie or something? I don't really want to walk home right now." She asks me, pointing out my window towards the storm.
"Oh, yea sure. We can go downstairs if you want. Do you want anything to eat? Drink?" I ask her. Nice Lucus.
"Just some water please. I will get it, meet you down there." she says.
"Okay." I respond and walk downstairs and straighten up a little before she comes down. I remember that she loved The Lego Movie, so I get it set up.
"Hey." she greets me walking down the stairs, she sits down in her usual seat, the spot next to me.
"Hi. I got a movie set up. You ready?" I ask.
"WAIT!!!" she exclaims and runs up the stairs, at the top of the stairs I hear a loud thud, guessing that is either her falling or the door. She's fine. After I hear the microwave BEEP, she runs back down and turns the light off on the way. She hands me a blanket, cuddles into the one I gave her, and I can smell a bowl of popcorn, most likely in the giant container we have for it. I feel it set in between us.
"Okay, all ready now." she says. I start the movie, and as soon as I do I feel her head on my shoulder and I wrap my arm around her.
