"How did things go?" I ask Olivia later that evening while I'm attempting to multi task by talking to her and cooking my dinner. I decided on some grilled chicken and mac n' cheese because I'm a growing boy and only need two things in life: meat and cheese.
"I, well...it went...good?" Olivia answers with a sort of confused tone that has me furrowing my brow.
"Good as in, what?"
"I asked her to the movies...but didn't say if it was like a date or not," Olivia responds, her words getting quieter until her last is nearly nothing more than a quiet breath.
This woman!
I let out a heavy sigh before backing away from the stove to lean against the island in the kitchen while I watch my food. Tapping my foot against the floor, I growl, "That wasn't the plan. You were supposed to confess your undying love and get yourself a hot girlfriend."
"I know!" Olivia cries loudly into the phone. I pull it away in order to save my hearing until the cry dies down. With her around I'm going to end up needing a hearing aid by 30! "But when I got to her all that came out was that and she agreed so I didn't push it! I'll...I'll see how the movies go and maybe I'll tell her?"
"Whatever, at least make out with her at the theater. Everyone knows teens pay a shit ton of money just to make out in theaters."
Olivia ignores my totally awesome suggestion in favor of asking her own question, "What about you? How did things go with Jace?"
Shit, I forgot that bringing up Sonya meant Jace had to be brought up as well. I don't really want to talk about that seeing as I'm not entirely sure what the hell happened. He did text me a little bit ago simply asking if I made it home ok. I responded and I saw he messaged back but haven't replied since I'm talking to Olivia.
It's strange because there's no way he was serious, right? He had to of misheard me or he's actually not as kind as he appears. He could be messing with me, playing a joke on the fag while pretending to be a nice guy. That doesn't sound like him though...I have no fucking clue what's going on with my life.
Oh, wait, that's normal for me.
"Uh...it went...good?" Great, now I sound like Olivia.
"Why are you saying that like it's a question? Was it not actually good?"
"Fuck if I know."
Olivia snorts and I move to take my food off the stove since it's done. As I'm scraping it all onto a plate, Olivia goes on to inquire, "How can you not know? What did he say?"
"Ok."
"He said ok to what?"
"I told him I had a crush on him, asked if he wanted to date and he said ok." That's as basic as it gets and that's honestly exactly what happened. There's nothing else to tell her so of course Olivia is stumped because she doesn't respond for a moment.
Yeah, fucking crazy, right? I haven't a clue either!
"That's it? So you two are dating?" Olivia sounds as confused as I am. Good to know that I'm not the crazy one, apparently Jace is.
"Fuck if I know," I repeat, moving myself and my food into the empty living room. My eyes glance at the calendar, checking the date for dad to return, which isn't for another two weeks. I frown but quickly brush it off and focus on speaking with Olivia.
"Well, how can you not know? Are you sure you just didn't freak out when he said he'd date you and forgot what actually happened?"
"Please." I roll my eyes while taking a seat on the couch to begin eating. "That's what happened, Olivia. We exchanged numbers and he messaged me earlier and I guess we're...dating?"
