i dragged my body down the staircase, as my luggage bag followed behind me. the light thuds of my bags onto the stairs, echoed through the building, causing myself to slightly flinch every time. although i was only staying on the second floor, when your elevator is broken in your hotel building, the struggle of walking up and down the fire exits are honestly a pain in the ass.

i turn the corner of the last flight of stairs as i am met with an open door to the lobby area. i look around in search of those particular brown eyes that are picking me up, but instead my eyes divert to the elevator.

are you kidding me. i roll my eyes as i head towards the front desk of the building. now they decide to fix the elevator, the day i am moving out.

i continue to pull my bag, the wheels getting caught in every tile separation. my black, leather, docs trudge along the floor as if they were the ones following my body. i look up at diana as a sad smile creeps into my face, my teeth just slightly showing.

"i'm going to miss seeing you around here, miss taylore." she smirked, as she walked around the desk to give me a hug goodbye.

she was the one who leant me countless amounts of keys when i locked myself out. the one who would walk me up the stairs just so she knew i was safe in my room. the one who would check to see i was looking good enough when my ex-boyfriend would take me out. the one who would be there for me, when i cried or when i was happy. she was my mum when i didn't have mine around, and she was my best friend, who i confided all my secrets in, no matter on what the age difference was.

"i'm going to miss you so much more mumma dia" i replied, trying my hardest to hold the tears that were already forcing their way over the small brim of my eyes.

"don't ever hesitate to call me whenever, and make sure you visit me! i want to know all the latest gossip & news, that includes any boys." she winks at me as i let go, bending down to lift my shoulder bag back on.

"oh no, we are staying clear of any boys" i reply, using my hands as quotation marks as i say the word "boys". "and of course i will. i promise to see you soon! bye diana, i love you!"

she sweetly replies, as she waltzes back behind the counter, attending to someone who is about to check in to the hotel.

i continue to scan the area of the lobby until my eyes fall on the familiar face of my best friend. she practically gallops towards me, the happiest i have seen her in a long time. its finally happening.. we're finally leaving the place that brought so much misery into our lives. the place we once called home but now is full of people we would rather not encounter on our way to our local coffee shop. the backstabbing, the bullying, the unwanted attention, will all be yesterday's problem, and we will be finally leaving it all, and more importantly, we will be leaving it together.

she pulls me into a hug as we spin around, almost losing out balance.
"i cannot wait to just— drive." she let's out, untangling herself from my arms as she picks up one of the bags i was holding.

"honestly, i'm done with this place, one last coffee at the shack, and then we're outta here!"

🥀

we walk into the corner, coffee shop, and make our way directly to our signature seats, hardly even looking in that direction as we spill gossip towards one another. just as we are about to reach the table i look up and am met with two pairs of eyes. one pair, was a grey-blue, pairing with his dark brown hair, and tanned skin, and the other was an icy shade of blue, that fit quite well with his bleached blonde hair, and pale skin tone.

confusion was clearly plastered on all four of our faces, as each of us looked at each other, and then back at the person we were with.

"ahhh hello?" the blonde guy asked. he didn't sound rude, it was just said in a more subtle way of saying "why did you just cross the whole coffee shop to end up in a corner table that was already taken by us?"

"sorry, ahh, i didn't— i don't—" the words didn't end up coming out of my mouth, as my mind froze and i didn't know how to continue.

my brain was just so focussed on the guy on the right, who was staring right at me, in a way that no one has looked at me before. i wasn't scared, or tense. i felt relaxed, unlike how i felt if a guy from school were to look at me for this long.

"kaidy?"

my mind snapped back to focus, as i saw jess staring at me in my peripheral vision.

"are you okay?" the blonde guy asked up again, making full eye contact with me, that also, like the other guy, didn't make me feel forced to leave. what is with these guys? since when do i feel comfortable around people i have literally never spoken to before??

"yeah, i'm fine, lets just go find another table jess." i spoke up, shakily getting out those last words as my throat was dried up. I went to turn around as i heard a different voice begin to speak.

"i'm sorry, did we like, take your table, or something?" he says, sounding concerned, as he begins to pick up his coffee, nudging his blonde friend to do the same.

"no, no! trust me, stay. we can just find somewhere else, we aren't staying for long anyways." i kindly smile at them both, as i begin to walk away with jess as he, once again, interrupts my movement.

"how about you just join us?"

the blonde guy chokes, nearly spilling his drink over the table, before subtly clearing his throat, as if that was all he was doing.

jess looks at me then back at the guys, "your friend doesn't really seem as though he wants us here." she laughs, as a smile spreads onto each of our faces.

"i'm sorry, j just proved himself wrong over something we were speaking of yesterday." the blonde guy lets out, patting his friend on the back, which earns a light slap to his cheek, causing us all to burst out into laughter. "oh- and by the way, i'm corbyn, & this is jonah."

i take a seat opposite 'jonah' our eye contact not leaving one another, as a smirk begins to creep upon his delicate face.

jess follows my lead and sits beside me, opening up the menu to choose her order.

i look at him directly in the eyes as an unsure smirk begins to spread upon my face also.

"well hey, i'm kaidance, & this is jess."
