"What were you and mom talking about?"

"Us" he replied curtly.

"I'm sorry I put you through this. Mom must have been hard on you" Niti replied fiddling with the sleeve of her dress.

"She seemed fine" he said looking straight ahead at the road. Niti licked her lip and looked out of the window without proving further into the issue. His mind was pre-occupied with a forethought, probably the conversation with her mother... she just wanted to let that be for the moment.

"She was good actually. She said we looked happy together" he said a small smile settling on his lips.

"Now that's the real deal. I'm relieved she approved" Niti said smiling as well but when she turned to look at Parth he had his brows furrowed and lips in a straight line. "What do you wanna do today?" Niti asked changing the question.

"Don't know, take a look around I guess" he mumbled looking ahead. "Its your city, your choice. I don't know much about it anyway, so you'll have to show me around."

"There isn't much to see" Niti said shrugging and she wasn't lying when she said that. There were the basics that pretty much every city has but other than that there was nothing you could essentially call beautiful or something worth touring around.

"Maybe but there certainly are places that are close to your heart or were close to you as a kid. You free up here, come on show some love" he said smiling encouragingly. It made her heart swell to know that he wanted to see places had sort of resonated with her. Parth knew wanted to do this, he wanted to feel closer to her, he wanted to be a part of places which held memories he couldn't have been a part of.

"I'd love to do that. Let's start with my school. At that time even the idea of going to school seemed terrible but the memories somehow turned out to be fond. Let's go" Niti said and Parth nodded in response.

"So this is it?" Parth asked sliding his hands into Niti's and interlacing their fingers as they entered the bakery.

"Yep" Niti said a bit louder forheard to be heard above the murmurs of the people gathered there. Parth felt a bit uncomfortable at their awkward stares but Niti seemed unloved by it. "There isn't much here, but we always came here as a family when I was a kid, that gradually stopped as I started growing up but I still came here, sometimes with friends and sometimes alone" she said as the walked through faint whispers, which weren't so faint anymore and awe-struck smiles presumably from people who were fans. He  dragging his feet as she pulled by the arm towards the end table beside the now unlit fire. "Sit" she said seating herself from across him. Parth was taking all of it in, it was warm and cosy and so homely. You couldn't find a cafe like that in Mumbai even if you tried. It was completely made of wood, floors carpeted with dull red completely the interiors. It was warm inside, a little warmer than usual so it was a downside to people visiting in this weather. The weather was sunny, and by sunny he meant that there hear waves blowing quite literally which made the A/C pretty much ineffective. He could imagine however umagine the bliss of visiting in a winter's, the ambience was perfect, it even smelled of exquisite brews and nice, home-made brownies. He could picture himself and Niti spending hours here, immersed in each other.

"I used to sit here all by myself" Niti said breaking the silence. "I remember each of those days so vividly, I've never had to make an effort to recollect them, they are just there- me sitting here curled up on a chilly winter evening, my eyes burning from tears relentlessly escaping through them and thinking 'why me?' To others there was no real problem which needed help, which needed to be talked about but to me it was still a...a hindrance to being thoroughly happy. My friends had perfect homes, perfect families..." she trailed off, her eyes moist it almost felt like she was going to break into violent sobs any minute, her strong demeanour was slowly crumbling. Niti kept still for a while, she wanted to cry and she knew that Parth wouldn't mind if she did that. He would be happier if she would let it all out instead of keeping it bottled up inside her but Niti wasn't sure she wanted to do that. Infact she didn't, what was there in her life to cry about? Nothing but there was a lot to smile for. She cracked a smile at the thought.
