As you stepped out onto a muddy path, you looked around and saw nothing but trees and fog surrounding you. As you slowly made your way through the woods and down the worn trail, it seemed as if the fog and trees were growing thicker and thicker with each passing second, threatening to completely blind you if given the chance to. Fearing that something would come out of the nothingness, you started to sprint down the trail at full speed, before  tripping on something as you came to a fork in the road. As you looked down, you noticed that you had tripped on what seemed to be a chunk of stone. You ignored the pain in your arm, since it had taken all of the damage, and slowly pushed yourself up, gazing down either sides of the path. On one side, the muddy and uncomfortable road continued on, whilst the other was a clean cobblestone pathway. Without hesitation, not thinking about how odd this whole situation was, you began to walk down the stone path, glad that your feet could finally walk on something  smooth.

Suddenly, however you began to hear screams emanating from the fog, deafening you as the mist now began to take on a red tone. Great, now you were probably being transported to hell, to be tortured for eternity. As you got on your knees and closed your eyes, awaiting whatever terrible creature would come to rip you apart, the screams began to fade away. Holding your arms out to either side as you welcomed endless sleep, you had expected the screams to grow in size, or for some kind of animal to come and eat you. But no, instead everything went completely silent, save for your own calm breaths. As your eyes reopened, a sudden burst of light came from above and you had to put a hand over them to ensure that your sight would be intact. Once you got accustomed to the new source of light, you realized that all the fog had cleared away, and that you were now transported inside of what looked like a cave. You began to get up slowly, taking care not to make any sound incase that you had gotten a second chance from your creator, fearing that something else would come to try and steal your chance away from you as soon as you got it.

And as you heard the footsteps begin to come closer to you, snapping twigs, you realized something.

Maybe your fear wasn't so irrational.
