She actually laughed – a sound so foreign, her dog looked at her, a little frightened. She had known him a few months now, and he was funny, caring, and talented – unlike herself – and they had never had a single fight.
No, it wasn't a boyfriend, she was done with them, but she had to admit, there were some nice guys in the world. Not that it really lifted the shadow from her heart, but it was nice to know there were other souls like hers which would never hurt someone.
Oops she slipped up. She pretended she had a soul. Maybe she was getting better, maybe not, but for now, she was still alive, and she had people who insisted on talking to her - "friend" was too much of a leap for her, most days. Who knows what could happen. Apparently even three years wasn't even enough to trust someone. Her life was better – a shade better – than what it was before, she could logically see that, at least.
Her cheating ex had broken up with her best friend. This didn't surprise her in the least. She avoided the both of them. Her new friend advised her to stay away from bad memories and bad relationships. He was a good guy.
It was something. Life was bearable for now.
