The drive seems as though that it had lasted a lifetime. My sister had always told me that the waiting is the worst part. I guess she was right.
The home of the Johnson's isn't too far away, unfortunately. As soon as I step out of this Subaru, my freedom will be completely gone. Out of everything that I have ever dealt with, this is the worst. I can't go to the movies to see the latest action movie with my brothers, I can't go hiking with my mom during the Summer, I can't go to Starbucks with my best friend Dakota, and most importantly, I can't go back home ever again. I'm stuck serving the Johnson's for the rest of my life.
We pull up to a gate that opens immediately after we approach it. The driveway up to the house from the gate had to be at least half of a mile long. A large amount of plants were in the yard with porcelain sculptures and beautiful water fountains surrounding them. There's a caucasian family standing on the porch of the mansion putting on a stern face as the car pulls up. Each of the family members have either black or brown hair and are dressed up in fancy clothing. The mom has on a knee-length red long-sleeved silk dress, the father is wearing a blue suit with a white shirt, the son is wearing black dress pants and a black collar shirt, and the daughter is wearing a light purple blouse with a white skirt. Hopefully they're nice people.
The Subaru comes to a stop and the driver gets out and comes to the other side of the car. He opens the door for me and I step out. I come up to the stairs of the porch. A part of my new forced job is to curtsey every time I greet an Owner. The people that were able to pay to keep working and continue to provide for their families while owning other people who weren't able to afford to keep working. The government says that it's supposed to provide more jobs for people while also keeping the individuals who don't work busy. I wasn't able to even afford my house on my own, so of course I ended up being an Owned.
As much as I didn't want to, I curtseyed for the family. Once I stood back up, I saw the parents smirk and look over to each other. "Seems like we have one that's obedient, Richard," the woman said.
"Indeed, Victoria," Richard told his wife."We can handle her from here. Thank you though for bringing her," Victoria told the man that brought me here. He nodded his head and turned away to head back to the car. After he drove off, I followed the Johnson's inside the mansion.
