When I turn to leave, I feel a hand on my shoulder. When the man, Max, turns me around, his expression has changed, almost motherly. "Oh, sweetie, you don't need to leave. You can stay here al long as you leave." I jump back in surprise. His voiced had changed to a noticeably feminine pitch! His expression changed back again, and he said in his normal voice, "Not now dear. I don't need him spooked." He looked at me. "I'm sorry. Allow me to explain. I have a disorder that makes me speak in two different voices. One might say I'm crazy, but I'm really a gentleman, it's just whenever someone happens to wander here, they always hear my two voices, but one body, so they think I'm insane. Surely you've heard the rumors about Mad Max haven't you?" I nod, remembering my mother telling me, "never, EVER go into the woods by yourself. There are strange men and creatures there that will hurt you." He continues, "I've always wanted to visit your town, but whenever I try, everyone is gone. They have all heard the rumors too." he shakes his head. "Anyways, my point being, I want to ask if you would like to live here, with me? I have plenty of food from the garden I grow here, and there are plenty of beds here from the boxes I've opened." I think about it for a moment. Then I write, "that sounds nice, but there are things I have to get at home first. I'll have to go home and pack, but I'll come back tomorrow!" He nods, "Alright, see you tomorrow!" I grab my case and walk out the door, feeling better than I did when I arrived.
