I had always been a morning person, becoming a wolf hadn't changed that.
The suns rays were peaking in through the blinds, illuminating my room in soft light. I was pulled my blankets closer to me, enjoying the last few moments of relaxation. I imagined I would be 'training' again today. I wasn't particularly looking forward to it. I rubbed my nose, remembering the way the way I had been punched. It had healed but slowly and painfully. I had barely been able to wipe the blood off without wincing from the pain. I had always assumed werewolves had fast healing abilities but clearly, it was something I'd have to be taught.
I sighed and looked at the small desk beside my bed where the ring I had found resided. I couldn't explain why I was so curious about it. It was just a simple golden ring, probably a family heirloom. I didn't recognize the name engraved, but then again I didn't know anyone here. I had found it in the water so it had to be something, I just knew it. There was no way the ring was just floating there on its own, it seemed too precious, too important. The gemstone was green, the most beautiful shade. It reminded me of the forest, of the dark summer nights, of him. I grimaced, hating myself for thinking about him. Just one day I wanted to not think about him, to not let my mind wander to thoughts of him.
Who was Andromeda? Why had happened to her to cause her to lose her ring?
"Phoenix do you want -" Summer started, barging in. She froze, her eyes focused on the ring I was holding. She paled, her reaction mirrored that of someone who had just seen a ghost.
"Where did you get that?" she asked quietly, her fists clenched.
I bit my lip, confused. "I found it in the water. Do you know who it belongs to?"
She looked down before back up at me. "You need to stop. There is much you don't know and meddling in these types of things is only going to get you killed."
"Summer what are you talking about? I just found this ring. I'm not trying anything," I said defensively, glaring at her. Everyone here acted like breathing was supposed to be a secret. I understood their reluctance to trust me, but assuming everything I did was against them was just ridiculous. I wasn't going out of my way to find people's missing rings, it just happened. I wanted to stay out of the drama, wanted to find my place here but everyone was hell-bent on making me out to be a monster. I understood but at the same time, I was doing everything in my power to prove them wrong.
She shook her head. "I said I would trust you but this is not something I can turn a blind eye too. You have no idea how much trouble you could get us in."
I narrowed my eyes, wondering what she was insinuating. "I didn't steal this if that's what you're thinking. I found it in the pool. I don't want it, here," I said gesturing for her to take it. She stepped back as if she was afraid of it as if it hurt her if she touched it. I pulled back, wondering what she was so afraid of.
Gabriel?
"What's wrong," I questioned her, getting out of bed. She had made it clear her and Gabriel did not get along. I understood she had gifts that he didn't agree with but could she be scared of him, scared of what he was capable of?
She gritted her teeth, her brown eyes wild with fear. "Gabriel will do worse than kill you if he finds you with that."
"Who does it belong to!" I asked, raising my voice. She wasn't giving me concrete answers and I was growing impatient. If I was risking my life to hold something so important that it was worth killing over than I wanted to know who it belonged to.
