👑Liam👑

It feels like eternity that I've been stuck in this prison cell. The severity of my "committed crime" has yet to be determined.

The night guard walked by, Blake, I believe is his name. I swear that guy is homosexual. I have no problem with gay or lesbian people, but when you have to pee in front of a guy who's checking you out, it's not all that enjoyable.

If only Reagan was here.

Never in my entire life have I felt this way about someone. As a kid, I was alone most of the time. My parents had hooked up one night after meeting at a bar, my mom never got his number so she couldn't tell him that he was going to be a father. As for my mom, she worked all the time. She always took night shifts because they paid twice the money, but that meant that she was asleep when I was awake, and awake when I was asleep.

When I turned 15, I started hanging out with a bad crowd of kids. Being with them made me feel invincible, like I wasn't an abandoned and lonely child.

To put it simply, my child and teen years were shit. My mom always told me that my father was in the military. That he was over seas fighting for my freedom. But in all reality, he was the one who took it away.

~Flashback~

"Mum, when is daddy going to come home?"

She looked up from her laptop, a face of misery. "I'm not sure Liam."

"Why is he never home?"

"He's making sure that you're safe", she replies, her Wolverhampton accent filling the air. My mom moved us here when I turned 5, a chance to start over, she had told me.

A frown took over my features, something that would happen to a normal 7 year old if their toy got taken away. Or maybe if they were denied a cookie. But for me, it was because my mum was upset about something I couldn't comprehend.

"Why don't you go get ready for bed darling?", she asks quietly. Before doing as she said, I walk over to the dining room table. I place my small arms around her torso and kiss her cheek. "I love you mum."

"Tell the moon I said goodnight baby", she calls to me as I ascend the stairs. The routine has been in place since I could retain memories.

I lay my head on my pillow, covered with ships and boats.

"Goodnight moon, love mommy and Liam", I mumble before nodding off.

~Flashback ends~

I wake up to an awful clinging sound. It engulfs the hall of bars, echoing through the 13-foot ceilings. Blake winks at me as be passes by, banging a metal cup against the bars.

The guy in the cell to my left falls into a fit of laughter.

"Shut the hell up", I mutter to him. He points to me and opens his mouth as to make a joke, but it quickly shuts. All of the noises cease within mere seconds. I turn to meet the gaze of an old man. He carried a brief-case and had an authoritative stance.

"Mr.Payne, is it?"

"What's it to you grandpa?"

"From England I see? Well buster, in America we do things differently than your petty British friends. We do it the hard-core style."

"Is this prison cell a time machine because I think I'm in the forties", I remark venomously.

"Oooohhhs" and "OOOOOH's" filled the small area. The man looked shocked for a second before recovering from my snarky comment on his word choice.

"I'm here to escort you to your court hearing."

"That's not fair, I don't have a lawyer!"

"Yes you do, one of those hot-shots from upstate called you in a lawyer."

I smile, recognizing the fact that Niall's uncle will be my attorney. He's the best in the state. My thoughts are quickly evaporated by the man leading me into a court room. The judge was not yet seated and not many people sat in the benches. A wave of blonde catches my attention, as does a black quiff.

Zayn and Niall sit next to each other in the back. I give them a small nod and am seated next to Niall's uncle.

In two hours, the case turned from hopeless to undeniably winning. We waited for the jurors to reach a verdict. I glanced over at the prosecutor, a man who sat alone since the victim was dead. Niall and Louis had both been called up onto the podium. Both told the truth, which was that multiple people saw me leave at around 11:55. According to the coroner and forensics team, he had been stabbed at about 11:30.

To everyone's surprise, the verdict was received in under thirty minutes. Waiting for the judge to announce it was painstakingly long.

I looked at Niall's uncle who had a smug smile on his face. If I had the confidence that he did in this verdict, I'd already be planning what to do for Reagan to make up for me leaving her without a goodbye.

"The jury of the California State Court has reached the verdict that the defendant is found-"
