"I suppose she can come." Renei Davidson nods.
"Thank you!" Sylvia, my younger sister squeals.
"Hurry and get your things together then." Mrs. Davidson waves us off. "We've got to reach the portkey by six."
I hold out my hand for Sylvia and we rush to our room together. She packs a few simple outfits that she already had picked out, a couple pairs of socks, a change of shoes, a notebook and pen, and a small muggle camera into her large bag and slings it over her shoulders. I pull my already packed bag from my closet and we return to the doorway of our house where two of my best friends, Lani Davidson and McKenna Riot are waiting along with Lani's mother and mine and Sylvia's parents.
"Are we ready?" Renei, Lani's mum asks.
There's a round of nodding, then Mrs. Davidson holds her hands out to Lani and Sylvia. Lani holds McKenna's hand on her left side while I take Sylvia's other hand and hold on to McKenna as well so that we've formed a circle. Renei gives a wave of her wand that's tucked between Lani's hand and her own and I feel a tug behind my navel as the world begins to spin in a nauseating blur. Our little circle breaks as the world stops spinning and comes into focus. I fall to the ground, dropping the hands of Sylvia and McKenna as I do. I don't see why everyone seems so excited to apparate when they come of age as I'm on the verge of losing my breakfast after only experiencing it for a few moments. Then again, maybe the first time is the worst and it's not as bad once you adjust to the feeling. It's certainly enough to have me wide awake at this early hour when only moments ago I was struggling to keep my eyes open.
"We'll have to walk from here. Come on, the portkey is just up here." Mrs. Davidson calls out.
I get to my feet and dust myself off, adjusting my bag so that it sits relatively comfortably on my back before continuing with the rest of the group through the woods. Sylvia takes a hold of my arm and walks with me at the back of the group until we reach the clearing where the portkey waits for us. Renei gestures for everyone to gather around a rusty goblet in the center of the clearing.
"Grab on everyone." Mrs. Davidson instructs.
Forming another circle, we each reach out to hold on to some part of the goblet as Renei glances at her watch and begins to count down from ten. 10... 9... 8... Sylvia finds my other hand and laces her fingers through mine, sending me a nervous look.
3... 2... 1...
The goblet begins to spin at a rapid pace, bringing us along with it. After a few moments of this Mrs. Davidson yells for everyone to let go.
"Let go?!" McKenna calls back. I can see that she's beginning to panic.
"Yes! Now!" Renei replies.
I feel Sylvia let go beside me and she falls out of sight. I'm preparing to do the same when I notice McKenna on my other side seems to have frozen in fear. I let out a sigh and pull her hand from the goblet before letting go as well. It feels like I'm floating for a moment before the sensation of falling hits me and I crash to the ground with McKenna, nearly landing on Sylvia. Mrs. Davidson slowly floats to the ground, chuckling at us as we try to get to our feet.
"Show off." McKenna mutters. Lani elbows her in the side as she pushes herself up.
After everyone is up and moving again we have to walk a little more to get to where we can rent a tent and get ready for the Quiditch World Cup, the reason we're traveling in the first place. Sylvia is exhausted and falling asleep so I let her ride on my back the rest of the way.

"Alright, everybody inside. We've got a few hours before the cup." Mrs. Davidson instructs, motioning for everyone to climb inside our small tent.
