[ Lauryn's POV: ]
It's 5am and I'm awoken to a strange banging noise coming from downstairs. What could it be? I creep down the stairs and follow the banging sound, it's coming from the kitchen.
"Hello?" My voice echoes through the house. It suddenly stops, there must be a burglar here. Something catches my eye, it's a tall, dark figure, my hands shake as I flick on the light switch.
A mirror.
Why was this here? I'd just moved in yesterday and the house was unfurnished ...except for my bed and a few other items. This mirror wasn't mine, in fact i had never seen it in my life. I shrug it off and start to make some breakfast since there was no point in going back to sleep.
"Lauryn-" A cold whisper shivers down my spine, I spin around as fast as I could to see... nothing.
I convince myself it was nothing, just my imagination until I hear the same husky voice again.
"You're going to die..." The voice sounded rough.
"W-who's there?" My voice shakes.
The light flickers on and off, then the bulb shatters onto the floor right in front of me. I scream of fright. My hands were trembling as I reached for my phone torch in my back pocket.
"He-hello?" I shine the bright light around ye room.
No answer.
I'm sure it was just a coincidence, but I still decide to get out of the house, I felt uncomfortable and uneasy.
---
What if there was a killer on the loose?
Did I just get burgled?
How did they know my name?
These questions jumbled up my mind, I was terrified of going home. The thought of my house being haunted didn't come across; I don't believe in ghosts or any mythical creatures.
I sigh and take a deep breath.
"Chill out, Lauryn." I softly whisper to myself as I pull up in a car park.
As I step out into the cool breeze my stomach rumbles, I hadn't eaten breakfast due to leaving in a hurry.
I decide to walk to the nearest diner and ordered half an omelette; I didn't really have an appetite.
6:30am I read a clock on the wall, I glanced around the place, it was empty and silent. I started picking at my food but I just ended up staring at it instead. my stomach was rumbling like an earthquake but I didn't want to eat.
I felt sick, I felt dizzy.
"Are you finished?" a woman appeared from behind me.
"Oh err.. yes." I jumped, startled.
The woman's emerald coloured eyes watched every move I took, I felt uncomfortable. What a weird town.
---
It's nearly 3pm and I've been hanging around town for the past few hours, too scared to go home.
I need to stop worrying, but I couldn't. A small tear sheds from my delicate eye, I feel it trickle down my numb cheek as watch it drop to the ground.
As I lift my head back up I'm startled by a pair of chocolate brown eyes staring right at me.
A man. He had a snow white face with long, liquid black hair. I give him a friendly smile, a fake one of course and to my surprise he grins back.
"A-are you alright?" He approaches me,
"Uhh, yes. I'm fine." I was shocked he'd talked to me.
"A-are you sure?"
I awkwardly nod, I didn't really feel like talking.
"Have lunch with me." He insisted.
I decided to go so I could procrastinate from going home. We walked in silence to a cafe nearby.
"What would you like?" The man asks as I read the menu on the wall.
"Erm, nothing." I weakly smile.
"Two smoothies, thanks." He tells the cashier.
"But-"
"You have to have something."
He hands me the smoothie, it's strawberry. We walked to a table for two outside and I went to sit down.
"So.. Uh, do you have a name?" I'd forgotten he was still there.
"Oh, I-I'm Lauryn." I tell him.
"I'm Chris." He smiles at me.
I look down at my smoothie and start swirling the straw in it.
"Don't you like it?" he interrupts,
"Y-yes, I uh just don't really have an a-appetite at the moment." I was surprised I'd actually said something; that's the most I'd said all day.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he seems worried, why?
"Y-yeah, I'm good." I nod and smile a little, even if I did tell him what had happened a few hours back, he'd think I were crazy.
Time had passed very slowly, I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone so throughout the whole afternoon it was full of small talk and silence. I Gould probably go home now, I could tell it was getting late by the pink and orange swirling in the sky. I was dreading going home.
"I should, ah, get going-" my voice shakes.
"Oh sure, would you like a ride?" he seems eager to give me one.
I shrug, I didn't want to be rude.
"I insist." I may as well, I feel like he's not one of those guys who'd kidnap me, I lightly chuckle to myself.
We then walk over to his van, yes, van. I changed my mind a bit. It seemed a little suspicious but he held the door open for me and gestured me to hop into the front seat. I dived into the car after being hesitant for a while and he jogs to the the other door so we could drive off. I watch him switch on the radio, a deafening screech escapes from the speakers and pierces into my ears.
Bleeding Through.
I get a little excited...they're my favourite band!
"I-is that Bleeding Through?" I try to control my excitement.
"Yeah it is, you like 'em?" he also looks excited as I nod.
We'd been in the car a few minutes and we were already out of town driving towards my place, my stomach felt sick. whatever was there I hope was long gone by now.
We pull up in my driveway as I glare at the house.
"You ready?" he breaks the silence.
"Uh, thank you. Bye." I half smile and nervously hop out of the car.
He gives me a huge grin and waves as he pulls out of the driveway.
I dawdled along the stone path towards the old wooden door of my house, my hands trembled as I reached for the doorknob. I tilted the knob and swing the door open.
There, on the wall. In blood, my whole body shivers as I read it. I stood frozen, I couldn't move.
Who would do such a thing?
