- 11 years later -

It's finally come. I've finally made it to New York University. I can finally start over and make my life how I want to. I made my way over to the registration desk and I met a face I quickly recognized. "Tia?" I asked. She turned around and her eyes lit up. "Johnny!" She exclaimed and hugged me over the table. "What are you doing?" I asked. "I'm doing registrations for dorms!" She said, pushing her large round rose-gold glasses up on her nose. "I didn't know you got accepted to NYU!" She nodded. "Well, I need a dorm miss brightly-colored-dorm-registration-girl." She rolled her eyes and gave me the first day packet and dorm keys. "Thanks pegleg!" I waved to her, and headed to my dorm.

When I was walking to the dorms, I was bearly tackled by someone. "What the-" I turned around and it was Leo. "Mon ami!" He exclaimed and started giving me a nuggie. "Ow! Ow! Hey Lee! OW STAHP!" I wiggled out of his grip and he just laughed. "How are you petit?" He asked. "I'm good I Guess." I shrugged. "How about we go somewhere after you settle in, later? We can bring Haydi." He said. I giggled. "I knew it." I said. "Pardon?" "You just want to see Haydi." I wiggled my eyebrows and he flushed. "H-hey! N-No!" He exclaimed. "You only change nationalities when your nervous." I smirked. "Meanie." He said and started walking away.

When I got to the dorm, I couldnt get the key to go in. I fiddled with it while trying to hold up the box I had in my hand. "Come on get in there." I growled. "Stupid little-" "You need help there?" And angelic voice cut through the hallway. Startled, I dropped the keys and turned around to find the owner if the voice. When I saw the man, my heart skipped a beat. His voice was no match for his looks. He was a gorgeous man with long coily hair that cascaded down his back. He had almost golden sun-kissed chocolate skin and a cute button nose. His eyes... piercing crystal blue eyes that almost glowed against his dark features. He couldn't have possibly been human. He must be a robot. I accidentally dropped the box trying to pick up the keys, which scattered the contents of the box all over the hallway. "I'll take the way you dropped that as a yes." He chuckled. GOD, even his laugh was amazing. "No, i-its ok I can get it m-myself!" I said nervously and tried to gather all the books before he could realize how much of a nerd I am. "Don't worry about it, I got your back." He said and kneeled down to help. He picked up one of the books and looked at the title curiously. "Sky boy?" He asked. "Yea sorry, I-Im a really big nerd if you couldnt already tell... heh..." sToP bEiNg sO aKwArD! "I remember reading this when I was younger." He smiled and flipped through some of the pages. ""I want to go home, I want to swim in the sky and sleep in the stars, just let go for a while."" He read a page from the book. ""Let the night sky take me away in its inky arms and smother me in its dark arts. Let me forget about the past and the concept of time. Keep me for eternity so I can forget about the past that I am stuck in."" I finished for him. He looked surprised. "You remember it?" He asked. I nodded. "I've been reading it since I was 7. A friend introduced me to it and I fell in love with it." I explained. He helped me pick up the remaining contents if my box and then tried the key. He grunted and handed the key back to me. "You were given the wrong key." He laughed. Tia did this on purpose that little turd. He pulled out a key and unlocked the door. "Welcome to dorm 176." He said and say on the counter. "Wait this is your dorm?" I asked. "Indeed it is." I felt my cheeks go red. THIS GUY IS MY ROOMMATE?! OH MY GOD I'M SPENDING MY 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE WITH PROBABLY THE HOTTEST GUY ENROLLED HERE!! "You must be the new kid!" He exclaimed. "I guess I am." I rubbed my arm. "S-Sorry, but I didn't catch your name." I said nervously. "I didn't throw it." He chuckled. "I'm Xander. Xander Hamill. You can call me Z if you want." He said. Where have I heard that name before? It seems so familiar, but yet it's still fuzzy. "I- Uh- I'm Jonathan Lark." I stuttered out. His perked up again like he was surprised. "Jack?" "Im sorry?" "Oh, uh- do you happen to have any relation to the Senator of South Carolina, George Lark?" He asked. "Unfortuanatley yes." I said. "Wow, so you come from a rich family?" I shook my head no and rubbed my neck nervously. "Let's just say, that my dad doesn't want to have anything to do with me." I sighed sadly. "Oh wow. Im sorry if I hit a sensitive topic." He said. "Don't worry, its not terrible." I said with a smile.

I got a notification in my phone from Leo.

Faguette: you still up for hanging out tonight?
Me: Yea but can I bring my roommate?
Faguette: sure just try not to drool all over yourself
Me: Hey!
Faguette:

"Hey Z?" I knocked on his door. When he opened the door, he had his shirt unbuttoned, revealing his defined abs and muscles. If my face could go redder, it probably did. "Uh-uh-" "What? Never seen a shirtless guy before?" He laughed. STOP BEING HOT AND CUTE AT THE SAME TIME HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!?!? Well there goes my sanity. "My friends are going to a bar just off campus, and they were wondering If you wanted to come." I asked. "Sure, if it's ok with them." He said. "Okay... Its only a 5 minute walk from here, so we dont have to leave right away." I turned around and walked away to hide my red face.

We got to the bar everyone decided to go to, completley forgetting the fact that I was underage. "JON!" I heard Haydi bellow from the other side of the room. I ducked my head in embarrassment and hurried over to the table. I subconsciously grabbed Xander's wrist to get him to go faster without even knowing. Usually, I could just slip through the crowd without anybody noticing, but I can't slip through with a really hot guy without anybody noticing. "Jesus Christ, do you have to announce my presence to the entire place?!" I exclaimed. "Aren't you going to introduce us to your boyfriend Johnny boy?" My cheeks heated up. "First of all, he's not my boyfriend. Second of all, this is why I hate you. Lastly, This is Xander, my roommate." Their jaws dropped to the floor. "Also, why would you pick a bar?! You know I'm underage!" I exclaimed. Xander just watched from the side, amused. "Bonjour mon nom est Leonard! C'est Haydi et tu connais déjà le petit garçon ici." Leo said. (Hello my name is Leo! This is Haydi and you already know the small boy here.) "Bonjour Leonard, je suis ravi de vous rencontrer ainsi que votre ami. c'est agréable de rencontrer enfin quelqu'un qui parle couramment le français" Xander responded. (Hello Leonard, I'm pleased to meet you and your friend. It's nice to finally meet someone who speaks fluent french.) Leo started squealing. "I take it you don't meet many french-speaking people." Xander said "Jon come talk to me for a sec." Leo said, pulling my arm. "Dude, that's your ROOMMATE?!" He exclaimed. I blushed and nodded. "Your so lucky!" He whined. "Hey, at least you got Hay." I said, which made him blush too. "Is he straight?!" He exclaimed, shaking me by the shoulders. "No I don't think so, I think." I said quietly. Me and Leo went back over to see Haydi trying to stand in the table. "Hay get down from there!" I scolded and tugged on drunk Haydi's arm.

We went home after that. When Xander didn't come inside, I went out to look for him. I found him sitting on the table of a picnic bench, looking up at the sky. "What are you doing out here?" I asked. He jumped in surprise and turned around. He smiled when he saw me. "Sometimes I just need forget for a while." I was surprised at what he said. Even though he might be extremely attractive, I know there more behind those blue eyes than what you see. "The stars are beautiful tonight. The view from New York is completley different than from where I'm from." He scooted over so I could sit next to him. He took a deep breath.

"Back home when I was little, me and my mother used to climb up on the roof of our house every night to look at the stars. We lived near the water, so when it got dark and the stars reflected across the warer, you couldn't tell the difference between the ocean and the sky. It went on and on forever. It was almost like I was floating, nothing holding me down. Just floating. Me and my mom used to try and count the stars and make out the constellations." He laughed lightly at the memory. He was one if those people that you couldn't read. He hid away his emotions. "Whenever I look at the stars, it takes me away to a place where nothing can hurt me, nothing can find me. It takes away the pain. It just lets me forget the world for a little while." I saw the start of a tear roll down his cheek. "I take it you don't have a good past?" I asked. He looked sadly at the ground and hugged his knees. "I don't like to talk about it..." He said quietly. "When I turned 9, my mom bought me a book. That book was called Sky boy. She would always call me-" you could see he was trying not to cry. I put my hand on his back as he continued to look up at the sky. "She would always call me her... her little Sky boy. Now when I look up at the stars, I can almost see her smiling back at me. She's watching over me from the stars. She's finally where she belongs..." A tear rolled down his cheek, but he wiped it away. "I'm so sorry Z..." I said, rubbing my thumb over his shoulder. He put his hand on mine, causing me to blush deeply. "Well, in New York you can be a different man." He gave a weak smile and looked back up at the sky. I've seen before. The way his eyes sparkle reminded me of my childhood. Why does this scenario seem so familiar?

"My mother always used to have a little saying she would tell to me whenever things didnt work out..."

He looked back at me.
